Online monetisation for Call of Duty

This sounds fantastic.

I'd much rather pay £15 for the original game then £3 per month until I'm bored of it, then £40 up front whether I like it or not .. whether I play it for 30 minutes or 30 hours ..

I hope they introduce this quickly ... games should have been like this for years.

(ps. Most people will hate the system because they are scared of something new and just don't like change. These are the same people that hated HATED HATED steam -- and now think it's excellent and have gently forgotten the fact they hated it with such a passion without actually properly understanding it or it's potential...)

I doubt that will happen, especially since most people who want MW2 have already paid full whack for it.

What we're more likely to see is them charging for mods, map packs and other "premium" conent. Since the singleplayer campaign left the story wide open for a sequel it wouldn't surprise me to see more campaign missions for paid download half-life 2 stylee.

Maybe they'll even try and charge a subscription to their own dedicated servers if they ever set them up.

i dont think it will happen i will be horrified if it does and ofcourse if it does i hope someone like valve will release the next big fps so i can stop playing the dog**** attempt inifinity ward made in codmw2

That might be fantastic but do you honestly think a company like Acti-makeasmuchmoneyaspossible-vision are going to do that?

Of course not, games will stay the same price they always have been and anything else will be on top. Games won't get cheaper to compensate, that's just extremely wishful thinking.

This is exactly why I stopped playing wow. Ever since Blizzard joined with Scumvision the game has deteriorated from a great game to a completely sold out piece of software. Everything lore-wise has been turned on it's head in order to make as much money as possible. They've stopped short of actually selling gold, but given how they've gone back on 95% of the things they said in the past since the merge don't count it out!

People hated STEAM because it was a buggy piece of crap on release that more often that not, prevented owners from playing their games. These two situations cannot be compared, especially as STEAM is a free service.

As for your comment about £15 for a game, then £3 or so a month until you're bored. What about people who play games on and off? Surely this system won't be beneficial to them if they have to keep stopping and starting payments.

Stick to the business model that works and you'll get sustained profit, other companies have shown this to be true. Try something new and you'll generally fall flat on your bum, just look at how EA have changed their ways after their big failings.

If they've mentioned it, it will happen and theres nothing anyone can do about it. Activision is ONLY interested in profit maximisation. It would take a powerful world government to make them change their minds.

problem is most idiots around will just pay them because they are just like heroin addicts needing a fix.....its pathetic.

I havn't bought MW2 and i still wont....

Funny how that boycott went down drain so quick. My other friend still hasn't bought mw2 either.

lets see if he thinks its fantastic still if it became the norm.
hey want a game of cs? no thanks i stopped my subscription , TF2? no thanks i stopped my subscription , bf3? oh wait EA no longer host servers to it.

mw2? oops activision stopped the servers because they are launching mw3 soon

yea i really want my choice of which game i should play online beeing limited because i dont want to pay some stupid subscription that makes no sense at all.

mmo subscriptions can atleast be worth it because you know a dev team is working fulltime on the game , with regular online games youll be paying for 5minutes of someones work and the modding scene will be no more.

can you imagine if quake/halflife never had any mods? loads of the best online games would never have came around.

I like going back to games after a long time, I'd hate to have to pay another subscription to play the game again.

It's all an effort to push new games onto people rather than having them stay happily playing a game that's been out a while

Yeh it just proves though what i've always thought about blizzard just money grabbers, its not activision themselves its blizzards ideas most likely.

WoW is in complete disarray these days and they dont seem to care long as they get paid.

Which is why i have quit it.

What about games like CSS? I played that for many years, and for a long time. Your monthly charge would bankrupt me! :D If you don't want to play the £40 upfront, just wait until it goes down in price (easier said that done though).

If you think £15 for the game plus £3 per month to play is a good idea.

Then for me COD4 = £15 plus two years playing = £72 total cost = £87.

Epic Fail

Activision is just stupid. They are just milking the cod series to the max, cutting corners all the time (ie no dedicated servers or 45 minute plus campaign which makes sense), and just trying to figure out new ways to extract money.

Even EA was never this bad, think ill go back to battlefield with REAL vehicles, Realistic sized maps and no gimicky hacks/bots - just me and a rifle.
