What's your views on people being allowed to post personal opinions on review sites? Do you approve of them or hate them?
I can see in some ways how they can help in some situations if you're thinking of buying something or using a service and want a general idea of it's good or bad but overall (as a business owner) I absolutely detest review sites and the people who regularly post on them as if it's a game.

(edited) "A large majority" of the people who post on them only want to comment to have a moan and complain about any little issue they can find.....and to make things even worse they always over exaggerate everything, and get highly emotional and personal with their words, and they seem hell bent on actually trying to destroy peoples businesses instead of giving a fair and constructive representation.

My verdict? Get rid of personal opinions on all review sites and just allow the "1 to 5 star" rating system for helpful feedback and experiences. Not many things in life are ever 100% perfect but the world doesn't need to hear all your petty bitching and moaning about every little trivial issue you can think of to post a negative comment about..

90% of the people who post on them only want to comment to have a moan and complain about any little issue they can find.....and to make things even worse they always over exaggerate everything, and get highly emotional and personal with their words, and they seem hell bent on actually trying to destroy peoples businesses instead of giving a fair and constructive representation.

Where did you get this 90% figure from?

I take them with a pinch of salt but do find them useful for companies I have not used before. E.g "terrible customer service, couldn't contact them about xyz when it broke". No doubt there could be more to one person's story. But when yyou get lots of people saying similar things it can show a pattern.

I will often post my own opinions, both positive and negative.

A review of 1-5 doesn't work as we've all seen the doorknob that doesn't know how to open a crisp packet give a review stating the obvious, which a review of 1 would not allow others to see through.

Okay, well replace that % with whatever level you're comfortable accepting pal, or adjust it accordingly based on whatever info you can gleen from national statistics if you have a desire for total accuracy.

90% wasn't meant to be a factual statement that needed a debate. It was just a random generalisation based on the attitudes I frequently see when I read reviews.

There should be a review site for people who sign up and create multiple accounts, so we can review their effort.

How do I speak with you privately? These little digs towards me over the last couple of days are getting tiresome already (and they're also false/not true).

If I've said something on here that upset you, I hereby publically apologise, but please stop being bitchy and talk to me privately so this issue can be resolved.

Don't trust online review sites a lot of reviews are fake.

I guess a lot of times, not 90% though, it comes down to what is being reviewed.

Amazon is a good example where it is obvious who's been paid and who is a complete doorknob.
and so on.

Start a thread in FCD.

Nothing bitchy, I’m just calling you out.

Look at Ebay you get to a certain size and can then remove reviews to keep 100% rating even if your not being honest and remove all neutral or bad feedback.

I much prefer to see companies / sellers without 100% feedback but answering the review as to how they resolved the issue.

You realise the mods can see signup IP addresses right? or see if there's multiple accounts been created? :)

Generally I find with most review sites, you have to take some of it with a pinch of salt and read through obvious paid for, friends & family and the nutter with a chip on his/hers/theys/thems/neutrals that kicks off for no reason.

I skip through Tripadvisor to get idea's and sometimes a laugh at reviews and the replies from owners/staff

Just have to be clued up.

Yeah... If you respond to your customers with the same attitude displayed in this post, then I can see why you might not be a fan of them sharing their experience... ;)

Personally I think they're great - as another poster said - take them with a pinch of salt, but it's a good way of getting a more accurate idea of how a company is to deal with; particularly when things go wrong.
