... that I can mount in windows. Afternoon, there. Basically I'm after some sort of online storage (i.e. like x-drive) that I can mount in windows so that it appears as an extra drive or similar. My intention is then to sync files to and from that so I can get at them from home and work machines. I was going to go with x-drive as they have a little application that mounts the storage as a drive but it seems to be quite buggy, at least it does on Vista. Are there any alternatives?

For what it's worth I've just had a look at Skydrive and I'm pretty sure that it doesn't let you map or mount your space as a drive. I could be wrong but for that life of me can't see how you'd do that and I can't seem to find any thirdparty aps that would help me out. The gMail drive program is quite nifty and works pretty well, though it does only allow you to transfer files with fairly short names (40 characters max I think)

Ive started using Humyo and am finding it really good. For 30gb of free storage it cant be beaten. Anyone else using it?

Dropbox has just come out of closed beta and is available to everyone (albeit still in beta form). Syncs perfectly between my desktop, laptop and I can upload files via the web interface at work and they're sync'd automatically with both machines. Only 2gig for free but $99 will upgrade you to 50gb :)

The thing I like about Humyo is that is just an online storage area. I dont want Syncing or anything like that. I just need a large place I can put photos and data. I literally have looked at about 15 providers and they all have their faults. Humyo just seems the easiest to use and I can easily share my data. Also I can use it on multiple computers.

Seconded. Dropbox is fantastic.

have been using carbonite for about 2 years.

backed up around 70-80 GB worth of stuff so far. only needed to use it once to download (accidentally deleted about 10 gigs worth of files) again and apart from not maxing out my connection, it worked as it should.

downsides = doesnt do usb/firewire drives yet
speed.

decent though

just used dropbox for the first time (properly) by moving to different office and all my files are there.

its brilliant... very impressed with it
