Onlive UK launch: Any game for £1!!!

This is why onLive are trying to give out a "free console" where ever possible! If you're a general gamer who likes games but doesn't have a 360 (most people will) or doesn't have a PC which could run any of these games, then surely the prospect of buying a game and getting a free console with all you having to do is hook up the HDMI and Ethernet must be a pretty good prospect?

I know for us lot it's terrible as it's just streaming a youtube video at 720p with some slightly annoying hitches and we moan enough if we lose 2fps due to a driver update :p

But I must admit I'm impressed that they have been able to create this technology already and that it is only going to improve over the next few years and probably explode when Steam introduces something similar in the coming years! One thing I'm finding great is the live stream of everyone playing and the instant demos!!! No download, no commitment just bam you are in the full game for 30mins achieves and all. Publishers must love that concept and it is pretty sweet for us gamers :D

The offer runs out on 9th October, so if any of you would prefer

- Witcher 2
- Saints Row 3 (dont know if that will be out in time)
- Batman A C (Again not sure if it will be out in time)

May be worth waiting to see what other games come along..

Saints Row 3 I can see being a good option especially with the fiasco of 2. Witcher 2 the input lag would be a killer. Batman A C will probably be playable but it'll be very difficult to get a decent combo multi if AA is anything to go by, ymmv.

Is anyone able to play these smoothly? I've tried it on three different internet connections (one 5mbit adsl2, 40mbit infinity, 100mbit virgin) and it hasn't been an enjoyable experience on any of them.

It's classic "I'm not going to read anything about a company before I give them money" syndrome.

Obviously for just £1 it's a bit more understandable, but still...

even without reading what they offer it was a dead give away by how start up.. you really got to wonder about some people

Just played homefront, it runs average...

However it looks like someone smeared vaseline over my screen and it's rather hitchy and the mouse feels like it's swimming.

That's "running average" for you? No wonder you complain about buggy games and hit reg so much!

heh?, it's average for what it is..

If it was a full priced retail game say via steam, then it would be extremely poor ;)

Luddite?

If it were progress I wouldn't be against it. As it stands it's a crap service and will only strain an already strained infrastructure.

Crysis on a mobile device? Get real. Seriously, actually think about what you just said. Is it technically possible? Yes. Will it be a playable, fun experience? No.

There are some companies that create technology that tangibly improve experiences and services. There are others that think they are offering a great product without the slightest consideration to the real world implications on the services it relies upon and how it will perform for most consumers.

OnLive is the latter.

Infrastructure will react to the demand. As more people use "cloud" services, more people will be willing to pay for better services. It's pretty obvious and is a non-issue with regards to the concept of streaming services. Yes, it is a problem for some now, but Onlive is the sort of thing that will drive demand.

My example was just to highlight that you can play a modern game with relatively inexpensive hardware.

I can't believe how short sighted you seem to be. It's to be expected on a computer forum I suppose. We all know a lot about games and computer hardware, so this service will be of little use to most of us.

Just to be clear, I'd never use this for any multiplayer FPS games or anything like that. But for something like Assassins creed, I'd definitely give it a go. Also the service can be on-demand... no need to "own" the game. Just pay for what you play. Perfect!

Anyone had any luck signing up when they previously had a US account? I've just tried it and it's asked me to sign up again in the UK but I can't use the same e-mail address.

I've e-mailed support to see if my account can be moved over.

Just tried it with Deus Ex and it was pretty unplayable on my 30Mb Virgin Line (London).

Strange, as my connection is usually good. So I'm hoping it's something that'll be sorted on their end.

I got warhammer thinking i could activate on steam, doesnt appear so... looks like its onlive only.

who would have thought hey

Just been looking through some articals and found one that stated you only get the game for 3 years. Is this true? if so its basicly just a long rental.
so whats the problem? what games do you own that you play mor than once or longer than 3 years? id expect 0 or 1 at best...im sure your live.

Just tried it, played some demo's and what a load of ****

Resolution is pants
stutters like crazy
whole screen looks very washed out

theres some major work to do to this service before i even think about installing it again.

Seriously? There are tons of games I've owned for more than 3 years that I still like to play now and again. I seriously doubt most people on here have zero or one games older than 3 years that they would like to play.

If you're thinking of spending your pound on Deus Ex, make sure you get the Augmented Edition as it includes the DLC and the Original Deus Ex GOTY!!

Bargain...
