Hi all
I have attached a picture of the wires going into the ethernet socket. Is it normal for there to only be 4 wires (2 orange and 2 blue) and could this be why I am only getting 2 to 4 mbps download speed most of the time? I am with BT in Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire so full fibre ready we certainly are not!! :(

Correction: I tried to add a picture but I can't add from phone and I don't have any of them other methods lol

Please help thank you

Hopefully this works thank you

im sure it did 10meg or 100 and didnt go over 100. cousin was scratching his head too since it was a new cable. i had a close look at it and realised it only had 4 wires in it lol.

Use an image host like imgur.com, you can then post the BBCode into here.

But if this is an ethernet socket (not telephone), then you should have 4 pairs (8 'wires' in total) correctly wired (ignore colours on the image below, they may differ to what you have) -

If you only have 2 pairs then you'll be limited to 100Mb/half duplex.

Hopefully this works thank you

Is that definitely an ethernet socket or, is it a telephone socket?
As 4-core cabling and a single used pair (2 'wires') would suggest telephone(/ADSL) to me

I thought they were all called ethernet sockets!!
It is a BT Master socket 5C....
It's been a while since i've touched ADSL/telephone sockets but from my very rusty memory, a single pair to a BT master/NTE5 socket is quite common.

If you're using an ADSL product, then there can be a few reasons to why you're seeing slow download speeds (cabling issues, line length etc) but chatting to your neighbours that are also ADSL users can determine if you actually have an issue or whether or not it's just because you're 'out in the sticks' as it were. Definitely get on to BT/your ISP if it is a fault though.

BT Wholesale checker and the Better Internet Dashboard can also help with knowing what's on offer to you.

Thanks
I will have a word with them.
If full fibre does ever makes its way here I'll be the first customer!
