Only AMD has true Async Compute - Doom Devs

It is actually just a method of ironing out inefficiencies in the architecture, preventing idoling stream processors. Once AMD have their command processor inside the new gpus I wouldn't be surprised if they stop going on about async so much. Of course it will still add something but nothing like before.

Async or similar technologies will probably be very useful in the future but we are several generations away from absolutely requiring it. Nvidia proved you can get much better utilization of the compute shades through a well.designed front-end and advanced drivers. AMD have been catching up on the drivers and they seem to hi nt that Polaris is more similar to Maxwell in front-end efficiency.

I just hope this doesn't go the same way as Tesselation where AMD are years ahead and then do a surely nothing about it. Letting Nvidia develop a much more powerful solution when there is the transistor budget.

Or they know the cheaper card will sell in volume thus more people able to buy and play their game.

Nothing to do with cheaper card.
Its to do with the fact doom devs were at Nvidia's thing singing up the praises of 1080 then now at AMD's Hence being paid to do both

No one said AMD didn't.

The BS comes from people saying Pascal doesn't do async compute, or only does it in software, or can't do it simultaneously. Anyone who says anything Ali g those lines are either ignorant or trolls.

Flopper didnt say pascal didn't do async he said Nvidia dont do true async only amd do. Whos spurting Bs now? I see how u make out your not bias at all but your Allways in Nvidia corner defending lol its quite obvious your bias.

Where did I respond to flopper, i pretty much always ignore him.

Quick question. What is "True Sync", can you please show me a definition?

If people didn't fabricate such rubbish then they wouldn't need correcting. On other forums with more balance between Nvidia and AMD you wouldn't notice.

I admire those who do it. I did a review of the Oculus Rift and was a bag of nerves and that isn't in front of a live audience and can do take after take (which I did). The more he does it, the easier it will get and confidence will ooze.

English been my second language (even if 13 years here), is the most difficult language when doing presentations and speaking in groups of people. You always feel uncomfortable to use and is pretty limited to be expressive without sound "posh" using words from the Oxford lexicon that none uses every day. Something that doesn't happen in Spanish or Italian which are not my mother languages also. (Greek is)

That has nothing to do with english as second langauge, I have no issue expressing or talking using english as that has to do with presenting material in a way that make it interesting for the audience and I am comfortable doing so.

Ontopic,
The 480 has ACE engines, true async compute.
Nvidia dont either on maxwell or for Pascal a new generation card from them.
Game developers said so, Nvidia dont issue a pr statement of them lying.

Truth?
AMD owns Dx12 and that is a fact with the ace engines of async compute.
some people like D.P will try to fool you with his erroneous logic dont be fooled....by him as we need more smart people in the world.

AMD do not own DX12, they perform well in one area of it so far. We have not seen much of the other features yet from either side.

And stop making it personal.

Did any body else not see the FPS in the top right hand corner ? that better be 4K if its 1440 then AMD is already down on FPS.

The fps was floating around 65 fps average which would put it between 390X and Fury nano performance. I think it was at 1440P since even a TX can't get over 60fps at 4K and at 1080P even the old R9380 gets 60 fps. That video may not have been Polaris footage though.

If it is close to Nano performance then I'll be getting the 8GB version even though I have a 290X. Overclocking will only push it higher and probably close enough to the 980ti/FuryX to be an excellent deal.

Async Compute Praised by Several Devs; Was Key to Hitting Performance Target in DOOM on Consoles

Nice, queue the "Paid by AMD" posts though lol, good to see Devs praising new tech like this, looks good for AMD, being in consoles had to have some kind of win for them in the PC market.

Now we just need more update on Dx12 and Async and have it implemented correctly and efficiently, also i would like to see some good use of MGpu :)

you know we had this thing when AMD really outshone nvidia because of async compute? shouldnt AMD tell all the game developers for their consoles to start making better use of it? how many games dont come from consoles nowadays?

i know nvidia got in first but what would developers lose if nvidia had a little hissy fit?

he said Nvidia dont do true async only amd do.

I thought that it was made clear a few months ago, before the official announcement. There was at least one article about Nvidia stepping into the DX12 bandwagon too late and that their new Pascal cards won't be able to fully support the Async technology yet as they still need more time to prepare the new tech, however 1080Ti or new Titan should be fully able to achieve the best of the mentioned feature. In other words AMD was right - they are the only ones to do true async at the moment and Nvidia should be catching up in 2017 + the new HBM 2 memory etc.

It's obvious - Vega won't be able to beat the 1080Ti or Titan in performance, however, they will have a much better price/performance ratio than Nvidia. Everyone is complaining about £619 for GTX 1080? Well, I am sure that even after the 1080Ti (and Titan) will come out, the price won't drop below £549, while those new cards will cost at least £800+ (Titan even more).

Yer and even on the respected wccftech comments section they said the same. Even people here who I credited with some intelligence seem to feel that the 1080 was literally going to be twice as fast as a Titan X and even 10 x faster than Maxwell.

Well it was a good marketing from Nvidia though. I can confirm that some people just aren't too interested in GPUs or have started looking into the just recently. I remember for last year reading a headline "Pascal will be 10x faster than Maxwell", I haven't looked more into it and I thought - Well it's going to be pretty fast then. It doesn't mean that people are stupid, it's just that sometimes on Facebook you see those random headlines and when you talk with your friend, you usually say the first thing that pops into your head. That's all to it.
Since I've watched the full thing of Pascal announcement, I know that GTX 1080 is 2X performance of TX in VR, however, when you look online (Facebook, Youtube) there're mostly only those small 3 minutes long clips of the announcement, where VR is not mentioned at all, therefore people have heard the line "2X the performance of Titan X" and they thought it's about every single game in the market. It's not like people were idiots, it's just that not everyone has watched the full thing, that's all.
