Weird question for you all.

There is a small musical piece that is usually used in old american films. It was made strings only because the guy making it could not afford the rest of the orchestra. Can anyone name that tune?

BTW if you don't know it, I bet you would recognise it if you heard it.

Its driving me crazy, I cannot articulate a search on google that will find the damn thing.

Cheers :)

I know the one, it goes: waaaahhhhhh waaaahhhhhh, waaaaahhhh, waaaahhhhhh,
. . . . . . . . . . . . WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH, wahhh, waaahhhhhhh.

And then it goes; waaaaahhhhhh waaaaaahhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhh, wahhhhhhhhh.

If it's not that one the only other one it could be is the one that goes; waahh waaahhh, wahhhhh, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

No it was not one of them, it was quite an upbeat one, quite fast and had people "picking" (pizzicato?) the violin in it. The only thing I can connect it to are skyscrapers, pinstriped suites and definitely black&white films. It think it is used quite a lot in spoof info-mercials.

Thank god for musical notation :p

@simisker - Oh so very close, but still it was string only. The guy could only afford the string section of the orchestra. It is much more bouncy than that.... if that makes sense.... more "full on"

Holiday for strings!!!!!

That took ages, you will probably recognise it from 25 seconds in, its been used in so much stuff. The "original original" was just strings, they have added a couple of other things in here too.

Thanks for the help peeps :) and enjoy

Aaaaah, of course! thanks for the closure :)

I do't know if it's just me, but I've always associated that particular piece of music with old British films rather than American films.

Y'know: those features showing "thoroughly modern Britain" from the Fifties, where leafy suburbs are full of semi-detached houses with perfectly manicured hedge-rimmed gardens, and commuting husbands in bowler hats say goodbye to their housewives with a polite handshake before walking briskly to the train station. Almost certainly with a plummy RP-accented voiceover spouting mild sexism and lashings of optimism for a bright future.

But as I say, maybe it's just me :D

I get what you mean, I think I attached it to America because when I heard it the first two times it was in old American films. It was probably used all over the world in the end.
