After 20 years of driving I finally got my first speeding ticket yesterday. No contesting it, the copper saw me, clocked me at 46 and pulled me over. It's going to the courts apparently.

What can I expect here? My wife seems to think it'll be half my weekly salary, I'm hoping a speed awareness course and a fine.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

3 points £100, you're outside of the the speed awareness band which is generally 42.

The courses normally charge about £100 anyway and if you've got no other convictions then 3 points will make sod all difference to your insurance.

Edit: Ignore me, @Freakbro is right and you and your scoot are off to the big house to meet a large man that likes Saffas

46 in a 30 is a Band B speeding offence and with it going to court I'd expect more than the FPN quoted above

Band B

This will attract a driving ban of 7 – 28 days will or four to six penalty points. This punishment will be imposed with a fine of up to 100% of your weekly income.

It covers more serious speeding – 31mph to 40mph in a 20mph zone; 41mph to 50mph in a 30 zone; 56mph to 65mph in a 40; 66 to 75 in a 50; 81-90 in a 60, and; 91mph to 100mph in a 70mph.

Though being your first ever offence should make it on the lower end of the scale

Ooof, what did you say to him to make him throw you down the court path instead of issuing a fixed penalty for that speed? :p

It's the victim surcharge that got me. I felt like the victim after being caught speeding on an empty motorway at 5am
Worst part I thought I got away with it. But must have been Covid backlog. Came through around 6 months later.

In 15 years I've driving I've been caught speeding 3 time. Always on a speed gun. I'm on 9 points currently. 6 come off very soon.

I got pulled by an undercover who'd been sat in their little hidey hole off the hard shoulder. The letter hit almost exactly at the end of the 6 months they've got to send the court paperwork out, it was a long 6 months waiting to see if I'd be banned :o

Apparently there is not time limit when caught on a gun and they've fully identified you at the time via stop.

It's on a fixed camera where they haven't confirmed the details they have a time limit.

I think that's right?

Looks like it still needs to be submitted to the court within 6 months https://www.drivingdefences.co.uk/s...me Limit, intended prosecution at the roadside.

Although reading that it looks like as long as it's been submitted by then then they can notify you whenever.

Last speeding court fine for me was £1600 :(

Also the obligatory: "slow down, ya child killin' *******!"

Edit: got the letter here still:

Lol, so the consensus so far is anything from 3 points and £100 to 6 points and £1600.

Cheers :D

I'll just wait it out and see what happens, first time I've ever been stopped so hopefully they take pity on me :p

You absolute monster. You should be ashamed. Think of the children. Those supermarket revving lambo owners would disown you.
