When I first moved in to my house there was two bits of sandstone / yorkstone that were used as a step into the shed, I've since replaced the shed and stored the stones round the back of the shed, at the weekend I used them to put a chimnea on so it didn't burn the grass as we had friends over.

Tonight I'm clearing up a few bits and bobs and put the stone in a wheelbarrow to run them back to the shed, have a look at one,

 wife's now wanting them gone :p

It looks the the words "WHO DIED" have been overwritten with the words "WIFE OF".

I'd suggest this is just a stonemasons practice piece and not a gravestone that was used.

Better give to the National Archives or whoever deals with such things, perhaps they can deal with it.

I don't know who else would deal with gravestones, going to a local graveyard would seem unwise...

We found loads of stones like this stoeln from the local church when we were doing up our house. Apparantly it was common for people to steal them to help build their house.

No we have a Weber no hillbilly BBQ's here, I'm having my drive replaced and extended and need a step up into the house, I was thinking of flipping this over and using the pair laid on bricks mortared and bedded.
