ooops

Lessons learnt all around i suppose :D I've been lucky all i ever did so far was smash a long wheel base sprinter vans bumper on a lighting pole when i was about 22 and had spun it around expertly a few times before, first time near a pole though :D grazed someones side in sainsbury with that same van, left my number but no one ever called  :D

Just be careful and try to look ahead. I've always kept my eye on the road and its saved my bacon a few times, had i even looked away for a second i'd be up someones bum :p Especially when a traffic jam ends right at a bend and its all clear on your side

it was a 60 nsl road! Most of the corners on the roads I'm used to say slow, so you go down to 50, and thats how the corner is, however this was an unknown road and i wasn't thinking it could be tight!

Didn't your driving instructor teach you about reading the road? You shouldn't need big signs with flashing lights telling you to slow down. If you can't see around or tell where its going then slow the **** down.

I fear this is what the whole speeding culture has created, drivers that just blindly follow numbers on signs and need everything pointed out to them. When they come to a proper country nsl road they are just an accident waiting to happen.

yes, i can honestly say, my instructor taught me how to pass the test, not how to drive! He said, chevrons are normally 30-40 corners, slow and turn signs are normally 50! And, to be fair, this is the only corner i have come across that has been different.

Then I'd advise you read up on it, things like looking at where the tree line goes can give you an indication of the bend.

Around here if you did 40/50 around unsigned roads you would be dead in minutes, we have unmarked corners on nsl that are blind and need to be taken at 20mph or you'll go straight into a tree.

Glad your safe mate, but don't follow rules blindly like that.

Not wanting to flame, but this guy did ask if smelly brown ham was ok to eat... after eating it :p

Listen to the advice mate, calm down a touch. Though to be fair, everyone goes a bit mad in the first few months of driving, then a close shave tends to calm most people down, its those that don't learn that generally crash.

I'm not aloud to crash, its my mums car and she would kill me, i might complain to the county council that chevrons should be put up, because that is tighter than a 90 degree bend and they only have a painted slow sign on the road!

Thanks <(multi)> I wasn't speeding, i was going a sensible speed for what is usual round this area, there were no chevrons and it was dark, as far as i knew it was another normal 50 corner! Getting pulled over had nothing to do with me, he though i was joyriding, he said my driving was fine however, but wanted to do the check just in case. My friends drink really has no affect on my driving, i have an ability which literally blocks them out, its almost as if im driving on my own! This is the first close call I've had, which compared to a lot of my friends well I'm one of a few!

If you don't know the corner, take it very easy, if you DO, then take it easy, specially just soon after passing, you're greener than you feel, this is in no way a jab at you, but you're not immortal, and don't go stupid round country lane roads you don't know anytime, let alone when still having "that new smell"

Take it easy.

Unlucky Frosted. TBH i think you are a competent driver, but just inexperienced (as i'm sure i am as well!). Glad you're ok, but i'm also glad to hear you'll take it easy on dark roads from now on! I'm willing to bet that many people on the Motors forum have taken a corner too fast and been saved by luck/good brakes/good driving ability/a good car.

Don't take it personally when people tell you to take it easy. At 20 with a 2litre car i'm waiting for my accident, although i'd hope i'm competent/safe enough for it to not happen, but only time will tell.

If that is how you have been taught to judge corners that is really quite worrying. You really shouldn't need any signs to be able to judge a corner. Until you learn how to read the road better, if you are on an unknown road just take it easy and slow down properly for corners (especially if there is SLOW painted on the road). If you go too slow what's the worst that can happen?

Also, you should be more worried about killing someone else than being 'killed' by your Mum for crashing her car.
