Oops new car: CTR

yeah bit spendy, but in the grand scheme of cars it's a lot of bang for buck

gonna keep it stock for now as it seems to have plenty enough go..... maybe a supercharger in a couple of years would be fun :)

I'm not saying the new ECU is crap, just that why spend all that money and not bother even setting it up for the optimum your engine can do! Fair enough on the waiting front if you have other modifications in the pipeline (engine/intake/exhaust), but even a standard car will benefit massively from a dyno session and proper setting up.

It's pretty much bob on what it can be already.

Your on about wasting money, yet you feel if you get a KPRO it needs to be completely custom to your car.

Lets do the math

** Estimated gains from other dynos **

KPRO - Standard Map
15hp Peak and 30hp Midrange - Total Cost £700

Ad's Sublime advice - KPRO with custom tuning on a standard EP3 +2hp
17hp Peak and 32hp Midrange - Total Cost £1000

Yes you would probably be looking at only a couple of hp gain from having it customly mapped to your car. Is it worth it......ummm not really.

However, the day you have an exhaust, cold air intake, racing header etc then yes go with Ad's advice.

It really isn't a lot of bang for buck. It might well be the right car for you, it might be mint, it might be great - its a lot of things but a premium priced low miler will never be 'a lot of bang for buck' as thats not really the point.

Maybe i used that phrase incorrectly, really meant at this 6k price level nothing else came close to what i wanted.

Next car on the list was the older shape Focus RS but these were a bit more and the specs didn't really improve on the civic. Also looked at the T Sport Compressor, but at end of day it was still a Corolla :(

Also mulled over Scoobs but the running costs put me off

Your money your choice, who cares what people think, if you think it was worth it then it was worth it, it will still hold a premium for low mileage when you come to sell it regardless of what Fox thinks low mileage are sought after and are more popular than high mileage equivelents

Supercharger? How much of a difference does it make? :D
Not to hijack but as said S/C will add around 100bhp. Mine was dynoed at just under 300 and as said it is a night and day difference as you'd expect from 50% more BHP.

Standard engine internals, standard gearbox, standard clutch.. all bulletproof... CTRs are seriously great cars, which is all the more reason really that you don't really need to seek out an ultra low mileage example.

Obviously I don't know what you wanted, but cars that offer similar 'bang for buck' at 6k are pretty abundant!

Afraid I'm of the camp of that's a lot of money for that car, and I know aircon doesn't bother you but it is something most people want so come resale it'll make things harder.

I sold my old 172 with over 100k on the clock and it drove better than when it had 30k on the clock, it was very well maintained whilst I owned it.

Not saying it's a bad car, looks nice and they are fun :)

Basic maths time.

If a low mileage car has, say, a 20% premium, then you don't get back all the extra you paid for it when you sell it for less a few years down the line.

20% of X is a bigger premium than 20% of X minus depreciation over ownership period.

im not sure the word depreciation should be considered on such a cheap car, i certainly haven't even given it a moments thought.

maybe if it was a 120k bentley cont gt, but again if i was in market for such i could probably afford not to care also :)

Firstly I was merely explaining to somebody else how its not true to think you'll get all the premium back when you sell it, rather than focusing on the depreciation aspect for you.

Secondly, whilst £6k is getting towards the pricepoint where depreciation becomes less of an issue £6k is still a lot of money - especially if had to go on a credit card. So depreciation is still relevent, albeit not as seriously as it would be spending £20k. If you truely are in the position where £6k is nothing to you then I remain confused as to why you are buying 8 year old Hondas on credit cards :p

hah fair points... again you questions my finances, i use credit cards constantly as a part of my monthly cash flow just out of convenience, plus it keeps me with a uber credit rating. It's a pretty smart way to do things and a handy 'bridging loan' between paycheques.

Of course 6k is something, even the truly rich would not be rich long if they thought that...

The card will be clear again by end dec..

To be honest you also confuse me in researching expensive dream BMWs, then deciding they are too expensive / the wrong car after buying them ;), you see... we all do weird stuff, but sometimes others just will never understand, especially on the interwebz

edit: the 2009 man of honour is outdated with substandard trim levels and low spec, 2010 MOH is where it's at :D
