Oops - overwrote wrong partition

Hi folks,
Long story short, I've just done a recovery from a disk image onto an hard disk partition. The problem is that I messed up and used a connected USB HDD instead of the intended internal drive (they were the same size and I got mixed up. D'oh!). Any good ideas on how to restore the external partition info/files?

I wouldn't fancy your chances, tbh... if you've restored a backup over the files, then the sectors have been rewritten and there's not a lot to be done about it. If you've just quick-formatted it, then there should be a good chance of getting data back.

Just restore from your backu...

What KIA suggested is your best bet in this situation, but I wouldn't hold out much hope for a full recovery.
