Why would they measure the power in any other way? Great, a CPU can calculate Pi or Primes, not exactly useful for folding.
A GPU is very good for folding, and that is why Stanford has made a GPU client. Stanford isn't trying to use the X1900 in any other way. Anything else it can and cant do is completely irrelevant.
