Open Source Webmail: Does it Exist?

yeah, are you one of these "i use opensource so I am cool" kind of people, similar to 60% of the Apple crowd?

I don't think i've found a system better than Google, I use their Mail, docs, todo, notes & library systems, all of which are available on my G1. I don't care if its opensource or not, I use it because it fits my needs. You should really do the same :)

Zimbra is only, owned by Yahoo in the same senses that Vbox and MySQL are owned by Sun and Firefox is owned by Mozilla.

They may own some of the bells and whistles and brand name but its under an open source Licence.

You are perfectly legally allowed to download the source code, compile it on your own server, or companies like Simply Mail Solutions can do it for you on their servers.

Its pretty much the same as walking into an internet cafe and using a PC with Redhat on it, its still open source its just someone else's computer.

Whether its worth £5 to you, I can't say. I don't mind paying it, the money is going to a small dedicated firm but its more aimed at businesses. The tech support has been swift on the one occasion I have a problem. For every day purposes it may may be excessive but it is open source.
