I've just started a course and there's a tutorial this weekend.

What's the policy on tutorial attendance?

I would expect that attendance is recommended but not compulsory and that I should contact my tutor to let them know whether or not I'm planning on attending?

I'm not expecting to have any difficulties with this first module, since it seems to be basically refreshing what I already know.

it is always a good idea to go to the first one if you can to be able to put a face to your tutor and find out things like if he/she allows time extensions to TMA dates. plus they tend to go over the more difficult parts of the course

My mum has just finished a degree with the OU and she went to perhaps 2-3 over the entire course of 5/6 years (part time)
The times she has gone she said it was empty and she found that emailing/phone was the best way to contact tutors to ask specific questions.

As Brian said its a good idea to go to the first even if it's just to show your face and meet your tutor.

Mine were too far away from me so I never attended one in the three courses I did. I'm sure someone would have given me a lift if I'd posted a note on First Class asking such but I wasn't really that bothered.

In fact, I never spoke to any of my tutors at all during the courses. The only communication I had was when they'd mark my TMAs! I still passed them all though.
