Couldn't see one of these so thought I would open one - hopefully there are other people here doing OU (noticed an old OU thread) and we can start a discussion.

I have done a starter course (10 points) back in 2004 - Y152 Living Arts and I enjoyed that. Then started L192 Bon départ: beginners' French in 2005 but found I wasn't putting enough into it so cancelled the course.

Feel in a better place to study now, so have signed up for AZX103 An introduction to the humanities which starts in February - a bit anxious about it but looking forward also, just hope I will be able to keep up and put enough effort in.

Well that's me - anyone else doing, thinking of doing or done OU courses in the past?

Starting another module towards my degree on the 2nd of Feb, just got the paperwork out today actually (Digital communications (T305))

I'm toying with the idea of doing a Computing degree with the OU. I just cannot for the life of me understand how the whole module thing works, not that I've looked at it for very long.

Need to book up my next course towards my computing degree...I'm about to start my fourth year. I'm finding it almost suspiciously easy atm, and this stuff doesn't come naturally to me, so I'm almost hoping it'll start getting harder otherwise I'm going to doubt the usefulness of the degree. That said, I only got a 2:1 last year so there's clearly room for improvement :)

I'm currently on M263 - building blocks of software.

It's vaguely Java and friggin' boring, but hey, a degree is a degree at the end of it, right?

To the OP...you've done Art. French and now Humanities....it all seems very random. What are you looking to get out of this? Wouldn't it be better to focus on one subject matter? Or is it simply a hobby, purely for the joy of learning something new?

I did an IT degree with them a couple of years back. Took 6 years in total although could have been done quiker if i tried.

If you don't understand how it works give them a call or book up to go and see them at their local centre and they will talk you through everything. You can then make the choice to do it or not

Art and French are Humanties! Living Arts is a pure 10 point starter, like before even Level 1. This one coming up is the next level which includes Art, History, Religion etc. I'm interested in Humanties as a whole. And yes, I have a well established career so I'm doing the degree for personal challenge rather than career development.

Hey I learned something.....maybe there's something to this education malarkey afterall

My wife's signed up to do a maths degree starting sometime this month. Glad that you've had positive experiences with the OU, hopefully she will have too.
