Hey im wondering if anyone has had any success opening one of the seagate external drives that look like this.

Its the 500GB one its not big enough anymore so i was just going to upgrade the hard drive inside rather than buy a new whole thing.

Thanks for the help.

I have opened one before, should support up to 1tb atleast, the only problem is you need to be very careful when taking the outer casing off as it bends quite easily and I think you have to glue it back on

You may also need a security bit to get the case apart (Torx tamperproof I think) - although that particular model might not use it.

And don't be surprised if it isn't a Seagate drive inside it - like some of the older type Freeagents that people seem to assume are all Seagate.....

;) Just because it says Seagate on the case.... doesn't mean 99% isn't made by someone you might not have purchased.
