Whenever I open a .pdf in a browser, Adobe Acrobat Professional is launched. I would rather the Adobe Reader was launched.

One reason being that Safari crashes whenever Acrobat is launched.

How do I set the Reader to be the default, er, um, reader :)

Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>File Types.

Then scroll down to PDF and click 'Change'. A new window called 'Open With' will load. If Adobe Reader is in the list select it and check 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.

If Adobe Reader isn't in the list, click on Browse and navigate to the folder and select the program file.

If you are using Firefox then I think you need to change a setting in Firefox. In Firefox>Tools>Options>Content. Click on 'Manage' under 'File Types'. PDF might be in there, if it is change the program from Adobe Acrobat to Adobe Reader. If it isn't the Windows Explorer bit should be enough.

There is a 'Display pdf in Browser' option within the Preferences for both the Reader and Acrobat. I played with both to no avail.

Sorted for now - by deinstalling all adobe Reader versions, or which there were many, and Acrobat and reinstalling just the Reader.

I just hope someone can think of a solution before I have to reinstall Acrobat.

do you get adblocking in safari?

in firefox, you can install adblock (to stop all ads), and an addon called 'pdf download' which you can use to alter the behavior of pdf's when clicking links for them in firefox
