Hi Peeps,
Im after a bit of advise...
Earlier this summer i had the chimney stack removed on my 3 storey victorian, purely because of the leaks around it and i had no plans to ever use a gas/log fire in this house. I had a grand plan of getting the chimneys removed at the same time, but once i realised how much work it actually was for little gain, i decided to shelve this idea.
Now im thinking, is it possible to open up the hole where the fire would go? im thinking if it is possible to seal it of, i could enlarge the hole, cement/plaster it and use the 'alcove' to acommodate my AV gear. I could get rid of the plaster fireplace and hearth etc, and drop the TV down a little so its more in the eye line.
Anyone done anything similar?
