Opera 11 final has been released...

Downloaded now :)
Although I had no problems with the Beta version so I don't expect to see anything new.

I work for a gambling company and perform site testing with all major browsers noting any issues.

Opera is so dire we don't even prioritise fixes for it. Not that theres a problem with the site, just Opera's compatibility issues.

Only 1% of the traffic is from Opera users too.

Sadly that's why I have Chrome and IE8 ready and often permanently open. Irrespective of machine there are still websites out there that just don't work with Opera.

I have been using Opera as my default browser since version 9 was released. It's a great browser, full of inovation too.

Extentions finally provide a great deal of extra functionality. - Just waiting for XMarks to become available.

As a long time FF early days user, I wouldn't mind looking at the browser if it would work on some of the banking sites I used - the last one wouldn't work well on my Llyods TSB and Nationwide sites when I tried it.

FF for years has been near perfect for site compatibility, hence why I always stuck to it.

For me a totally fresh install of the final version 11 has been pretty good. I used to have issues with both of my banking websites and now they are both working fine.

I have found FF 3.xx to be really good with any website, although using the latest nightly builds of the 4 series has caused some issues, which I have reported.

Overall I am very happy as yet with my install of Opera and so I will be happy to keep using it.

Why does Opera occasionally do this?

When I need to CTRL-F something I type in the word/phrase and it finds the first match. Rather than the page's results being highlighted the first one gains a blue border. Then if it happens to be a link it goes to it.

For example I search for words containing my username. The first one that gets a blue border is at the top right under the banner - "Welcome: Greenlizard0". The following click of the enter key (which before hand would find the second result on this page) now causes me to navigate to my profile page.

As said it doesn't happen often.

Oh awesome, you can relocate the tab bar from the top of the browser to the left, right or bottom of the window. I'm trying having them on the left.

Also, some of these extensions are good. I'm liking the hover-over-for-image-preview one.

I love Opera and it is my primary browser but I have to admit that this is a very true statement:

I too keep IE8 handy for those sites that just dont work on Opera. For example Play.com refuses to function for me. I have to use another browser.

On another note - really liking this latest release. Does anyone know if its possible to open X number of tabs, put them in a stack and then save that stack for later use?

So for example you would:

1. Come here to OcUk Forums
2. Open your fav sub-forums in tabs
3. Stack the tabs
4. Save the stack and give it a name ("OcUk forums") and then save it.

Later on you would load the stack "OcUk Forums" and bam

Oh wait I guess I can just do that with bookmarks huh...oh nm I typed it all now and Im not gonna delete it! :p

I alternate between Iron and Firefox for compatibility. Since Opera 10 I think I've not been able to get Opera to search play.com for me from the address bar using "p search term". I use "g search term" for Google or "a search term" for Amazon. Since Opera 10, Opera just decides to use a toolbar link as the search field and it doesn't work. :(

Play.com works 100% for me, and always has done

I take that back it looks like in Opera 11 it is finally working for me! Prior to this (Opera 10.63 and before) Play.com would not work for me.

I should have clarified - I could view the site fine but each time I went to My Account and clicked on it nothing would happen. I had to load in IE and get into My Account.

However I just tried it now in Opera 11 and its worked!

well, that's pretty strange. i've not used play.com in quite a while but when i last did i had no issues with the site and i've been using opera for a lot longer than i've been using play.com :p

Hey guys if any of you come across (or already have) a REALLY SLIM Opera 11 skin could you please post the link! Ive browsed the Opera skin downloads section looking everywhere for a super-slim skin but no luck. Im on a laptop and I cant seem to find a screen-efficient skin. The bookmark toolbar is the main offender...all skins seem to set this to a big size with lots of padding.

Hmmm I guess I should learn how to make my own...maybe I can tweak an existing skin!

Thanks!!

bookmark toolbar?

just use the side-bar, activate the sidebar toggle and then you can just click it to hide/reveal all your bookmarks.

Also, turn off the useless status bar! save more space! :D

bookmark toolbar?

Yea I do have all the bookmarks neatly in folders that I access using the sidebar. But what I have in the bookmarks toolbar are links (with favicons) to my favorite sites. So one click up there and Im sorted.

There was an old version of Opera (Ver. 9) where there was this ultra-thin skin that majorly compressed the bookmarks toolbar. So you still had all your favicons but the toolbar was not the size of an aircraft carrier deck.

:)
