Hey there :)

I purchased the following items from O/C UK a few months back:

BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz

When the parts arrived I decided it would be a good time to give Windows Vista a try. So I had that installed for a few months. I can get on with most of it, even accepting a dialog everytime you run a program etc.

What I can't get on with, is the fact that most of my old games and DVD tools no longer function correctly. So I decided yesterday to revert back to good old XP SP2.

A game I frequent on a regular basis is Star Wars Galaxies. With this new hardware and Windows Vista installed, I was getting a constant 30fps in the game all the time. Since switching back to Windows XP SP2, I find that I'm dropping down to 22fps quite frequently.

I just wondered if anyone had any idea why? I thought maybe something to do with DirectX 10? But I tried out Vista before, when I was using an old graphics card that wouldn't have been DX10 ready, with the same results. Something wrong with the latest NVidia 8800 drivers?

I'm told that people normally experience slower game performance with Vista, not XP, but I don't really know.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated :D

Cheers.

well i found with XP most games seem to run slower. I currently have server 2003 installed and the performance is brilliant. In xp i couldnt run QUAKE 4 at max settings :( which was annoying installed server and it improved performance:) i think the main issue is possibly drivers do you have all the latest drivers installed?? As its a new graphics card try the pervious version of the drivers as well as this could help:)

hope this helps
