Hey guys.

I've been working on an EDM tune on and off for a few weeks now and i think its at a point where i can let people listen to it and give me their opinions, here it is:

http://www.davidwatson.f2s.com/Song.mp3

It's nowhere near done yet and i haven't come up with a melody yet, it's still very much a work in progress :). Any opinions much appreciated, good or bad :).

I used Reason 3 rewired into Ableton, Vengeance sample packs and my mate's bass guitar for the bassline :) The FX sweeps etc are not final, i've used the same one all through the track but will eventually tweak them, make my own etc

I'm crap at melodies so am a bit stuck, if anyone has any ideas please let me know (It's in F# minor ;))

:)

My soundsystem isn't plugged up right now as I'm sorting my room out.

I'll give it a listen when I get the chance. Good to see some fellow producers on here. :)

Also, Reason 4 is out in a matter of days! I can't wait.

First impressions... the percussion and beat is excellent actually, really liked it. Not so keen on the bass line because it sounds a bit weak, I reckon if you went for a really fat sounding synth bass (something like Mauro Picotto - Pulsar) it could become the main lead of the track and be supported by everything else.

Agree with what you say, would be nice to hear a really commanding synth as the melody.

Sounds nicer, but doesn't feel like it should be the main bassline, almost like a warm up to the main bassline, which kicks in later in the track.

Is there any keychanges within the bassline? perhaps mirroring the melody of the synth will give it a bit more oompf, it being on the lower-end of bass creates a darker feel than the rest of the track has imo.

the current bassline is C# C# C# D#, i could make it just be C# 4 times until a bit later on? i agree though it should probably have a deeper sub-bass line or something

I meant the flow from bar to bar, have the CCCD change in the same way that the synth goes from key to key :)

i will upload a few of the other ideas me and my mate have been working on, they're nothing special and only a few abrs long, but any advice would be awesome :)

the last track was made under the influence :p

ultra happy but a bit cheesy - http://www.davidwatson.f2s.com/awesmoRendered.mp3

Wish i had the time and patience to learn Ableton, Reason, FL etc.
Quite good at making melodies when i did try to do it, but i never got so involved that i progressed into making full on tunes. Gutted really. Might give it another go soon.

I've just put Fruity loops on and had a quick mess - I've got big plans for this piece of software.

I'd like to hear more Fruity Loops creations if possible.

You could jazz up the base line my doing a break in it - perhaps with some scratched over the top into some strings then bring it in later with hit of instrumentation as you start the melody..

I've been playing with Redrum in Reason 3, specifically twiddling things like the lengths of the cymbal hits to give a propper high hat sound.

I'm still learning R3 after getting the full version and an Oxygen8v2 MIDI controller about 2 weeks ago..

I'll put up something that I was playing with during the first few days - basic atm but sounds a little Bladerunneresque.
