Opinions on BMW 1 Series Coupe?

My opinion of the whole 1 series range has been that it is for people who want a BMW badge, but cant afford a 3 or 5 series (men) or dont want a 'big' car (women). Same with the Merc A Class...

What else is on the list?

I cant afford a 3 or 5 series and i dont want/need a "big" car, do all men drive big cars then? Could have sworn ive seen many driving around in hatchbacks, must've been the wifes then..

Dont have the list to hand but other cars on it were:

Volvo C30 2.0 D5

Audi A3 2.0TDi SE

Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDi or 1.4TSi

Honda Accord 2.0 Diesel

Volkswager Scirocco 2.0TDi

Mazda 6 2.0 Diesel

Citroen C5 2.0HDi

Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 Diesel

etc etc

I think it's a shame to compare the 1series coupe with the A- classe.

Especially the 123d, mmm looks and drives lovely, with decent mpg as well. If only it didn't cost an arm and a leg...

Sorry, thats not what I meant, those are a generalisation for the reasons for buying a 1 series, not small cars in general.

TBH, on that list, Id go for the Scirocco, just cos it looks awesome!

The TDI is 138BHP and the TSI is 160/197BHP, see if you can get the 1.4 or 2.0 TSI.

On the list the Scirocco is only £12 a month less than the BMW, and thats the povertly spec non GT one, i dont think i could afford them unfortunately otherwise id plump for the 2.0TSi :) The fleet company have a deal with BMW apparantly and dont pay list price for their cars so thats why the 1 series is so affordable compared, despite costing more than most of the others

It's a Marmite car, half the people I have asked hate it, the other half like it. The fairer of the sex seem to hate it more for some reason ;)

the VW 1.4tsi engine is meant to be pretty good, not quite up to the 2 gti engine but not bad. Maybe worth a demo.

Great engine and chassis on the 125i, just a dire shape, really does look like a noddy car. Get one in a decent spec level, base level cars feel cheap, i wouldnt even consider anything less than the Msport model tbh.

Main problem with these cars is that its mainly driven by tarts (or the teeth and t*ts brigade:p).

But looking at your list, its an odd car to be on there, best of the bunch tho, the Scirrocco is the nice car to look and its a nicer place to be in, but the chassis on the 1'er is pretty damn good.

They're nice cars - I'm looking seriously at getting a 130i hatch at the moment.

Only problem is the standard spec is pretty bad so you need to go a bit mad on the options list if you're buying new. Even cruise control is an option

It also feels like a car that has been built to a budget.

The 1 series must be due for a change soon tho, its been around a while and i cant think of major facelifts so far?

530i to a 130i....

Did you shrink in the wash or something?

We have the hatch as a pool car at work. Only a 118D, but it's economical and very good build quality. I agree with Olly, lots of options...this work one didn't come with cruise, but had a few other options on it.

Looks good from an angled front picture but omg is the side profile horrible. Couldn't believe it was the same car.

Deff get the scirocco over it.
