Hello all

I am looking at getting OCUK to build me a new PC to replace my 13 year old Windows 7 desktop.
I would appreciate any feedback on my list to see if this is a balanced build.

The PC will mainly be for general surfing, emails and watching streams eg BT Sport and some light gaming. I mainly play soulsbourne games and rpgs in general. I have a PS5 and Xbox One S (both white!) for my main gaming needs.

Many thanks

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,507.40 (includes delivery: £12.60)

£170 (incl. VAT)
£99 (incl. VAT)
FREE DELIVERY
£120 (incl. VAT)
£108 (incl. VAT)
A lot of bling. Like seriously waste of money bling.
A 5600 + 3060ti build should be a £900-1k build rather than a £1.5k build.

Will the parts you specced work together? Yes
Would I recommend it? No

Honestly... you're paying a premium for going white and all that rgb and in all honesty if my budget was £1500 I wouldn't be paying a premium just for a white and rgb theme (luckily I don't like white anyway)....

You really want to use 3600mhz ddr4 for optimal match up on am4 ryzen.

An alternative build:

And the unbalanced PC award goes to... (if you play at 1080p, I do apologise :D )

Intel Core i3-12100F 3.30GHz (Alder Lake) Socket LGA1700 Processor - Retail - £109.99
Gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4 (LGA 1700) DDR4 Micro-ATX Motherboard - £114.98
Team Group Vulcan Z T-Force 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit - Grey - £80.00

Powercolor Radeon RX 7900 XT HellHound 20GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £929.99

Lian Li Lancool 205M Mesh Micro-ATX PC Case Black - £69.94
Super Flower Leadex III 850W 80 PLUS Gold Modular Power Supply - Black - £112.99
WD Black SN770 1TB SSD M.2 2280 NVME PCI-E Gen4 Solid State Drive (WDS100T3X0E) - £83.00

Grand Total: £1,513.19 (includes delivery charge)

OS: Using your Windows 7 key to install Windows 10 and then upgrade if you want.

Agree with the others, £1500 for a midrange build in white is expensive.

If you have to have white, sure. Go for it. It’s just not really good value.

If you shop around for good looking components that don’t cost a fortune, you can have an absolutely stunning machine for the same price.

Thanks for the replies.

I totally agree that you pay more to have things in white, but unfortunately I can't stand black!
If there are other components that are cheaper but not in black then I'd certainly look at those. RGB is totally optional, so if there are any non black, non RGB, products I'm all ears!

I am open to suggestions.

Could anyone also recommend any decent monitors for up to £400?

Thanks for the replies everyone. They have certainly given me food for thought. The 3060 TI are definitely overpriced compared to AMD cards.

I've noticed quite a few items are on pre-order. I'm out of the loop, is there still stock shortages due to Covid? How long do people have to wait for stuff to come in, or is it a case of how long is a piece of string?

you're not solely limited to buying from ocuk you know? :)
shop around for parts availability and best prices
we're only quoting ocuk parts/prices as this forum is run, owned and paid for by ocuk so competitor talk/prices aren't allowed

If you're referring to my builds, we can probably suggest alternative parts at similar prices, e.g. for the PSU, Thermaltake GF1 or EVGA G6 have similar build quality & warranty length.
