Got a lot of stuff on my pc that i been building up for many years. Music films and software.
I am looking at getting a 400gb-500gb external drive so i can take it around places and keep it seperate from my PC.

Got 2 options
1. Buy external drive (been looking at the WD 400gb)
2. Buy a large drive and a case for it.

My questions
1. Any performance difference ( dont think there will be )
2. Any physical size difference of the cases
3. Shall i wait for blu-ray of some sort or is it gonna be crazy expensive when its fully out. and how long?

thanks

There wont be any real difference between a retail external HDD unit or one you stick in your own enclosure. The external HDDs just have a normal internal HDD inside it.

Generally it is cheaper and better to buy a HDD and enclosure separately. This way you get to choose the enclosure and the best HDD [at the moment Seagate's new 7200.10 HDDs with perpendicular technology]. You can also decide on the size you need. If youre skint get a smaller drive. If you're lighting cuban cigars with 50 notes then get a nice big one :D
