Which do i sell! Im unsure!

My current rig is a 3900x/2080Ti runs amazing, picked it up for next to nothing after selling my 8700k/1080ti gubbins.

Few days later listing came up local for a 3700x/3070 system that the guy was desperate to shift. So i bagged another bargain. But i cant justify 2 systems this high end atm so one needs to go.

Do i keep the 2080Ti and no doubt make a tidy profit on the 3070 system due to it having a 3070 in it! Or do i replace the 2080Ti with the 3070 and sell the 3700x system with the 2080Ti and most likely break even (free upgrade 2080Ti to 3070 if you can call it an upgrade)

Now there are additional considerations, i play on an LG48CX OLED as my monitor. It was always the plan to get a 30 series card to use HDMI2.1 for 120/4k/HDR if im right the 2080Ti will only do 60/4k/HDR??

Opinions please, what would you do?

Easy, 3070 if your getting the lg OLED. Yes correct only the 3079 between the two with full hdmi 2.1 will let you do 120hz @ 4k, HDR whacked on without any limits (ful RGB / 4:4:4 etc)+ Gsync. Sell the 2080ti and break even.

Yeah the 2080Ti is only HDMI 2.0 so you are limited to 60hz at 4K, only way around it is to use the Display Port 1.4 which your OLED probably does not have.
I'm using a 3070 on a 4K 144hz monitor currently and it does a good job (over 60hz in most games) although have to tweak settings on certain games to avoid VRAM limitations, also cannot max out ray tracing at 4K most of the time either. Not a deal breaker for me as just a temporary card until I can get a 3080.
If I were you and sticking with the OLED TV would mke sense keeping the 3070 in your system of choice.
2080Ti is probably a better card due to the extra VRAM but its no good if you can't exceed 60hz due to the HDMI 2.0.

hz is not the same as fps you mean over 60fps not over 60hz, hz is fixed and is the refresh rate. FPS is frames per second.

----

2080ti is about same speed as the 3070 give or take a few games so other than the extra Ray Tracing speed and DLSS 2 not much difference so its not necessarily going to be better on a 120hz TV v 60hz TV.

Here's a curve ball for you. I would sell the 2080ti system, sell the 3070 GPU and buy a 3080/3080ti or a 6800xt/6900xt whichever you can get for the lesser outlay.

Then you dont need to worry about hz or fps ;)

This is quite an easy quandary. I’m shocked no one else has mentioned it yet.

err post #5 ?

Yeah I know the difference I just don't tend to bother making the distinction anymore as most people understand it. The LG CX OLED TV's support 120fps so I assumed OP would already know that.

The 60hz tv can do 120fps too thats why you need to be clear with what you state as it causes confusion. ;)

I would keep the 3070 as you have a LG48CX OLED a monitor/tv that can use the HDMI 2.1 features.

You could also place both up for sale and see which one gets you the best price and sell the one that gets you best profit, but reality is the 3070 at least has a new warranty (if the seller is willing to help with RMA or if EVGA you can do it yourself) and the 2080ti maybe soon if not out of warranty too.

But that's just my opinion and you need to have a good think really.

Might as well keep the RTX 2080 TI, it's materially a better graphics card (mostly due to VRAM). Overclocking should push it beyond a RTX 3070 in cases where the 3070 is slightly ahead (but they are almost identical in performance).

The ray tracing performance is also better on the RTX 2080 TI. I wouldn't worry about over 60 FPS (or >60hz) at 4K, neither card will push much beyond 60 FPS at this resolution.

3070 is what you brought if you wanted RTX 2080 TI performance, for less money.

There's definitely some games that will benefit from the extra 3GB of VRAM (Watch Dogs Legion with all gfx options at max), make the most of it and only upgrade when you can't play at smooth framerates at the desired resolution.

Or, you could sell both to CEX, and get a RTX 3080 with the money, but, I would only do this if you could get hold of a RTX 3080 FE at RRP price first.

BUT his monitor is a HDMI 2.1 LG CX OLED 4K with HDMI 2.1 ... so he can use the HDMI 2.1 features (120hz 4k, hdr and gsync and VRR), where the 2080ti will limit him to HDMI 2.0 and 4k 60hz.

Then the 3070 has better RT performance than the 2080Ti too, only disadvantage with the 3070 is it lacks 3GB VRAM compared to the 2080Ti, the 3070 beats it on everything else and is faster in most games especially the newer ones. With more driver updates the 3070 will be the better card in the future for new games.
