Hello, wanted to see what people thought of this setup. All Other Hware is taken care of. It will be used for multiple purposes, one of these being gaming. Although I've still gone with the Q6600. In addition to this do you think the PSU Is sufficient?

Thanks Matt

looks good, what os will you be running and res.?

and for gamming why the q6600.?
better yet, why the "guarenteed to run at" version, they are all pretty much guarenteed to run at 3.0GHz +

psu should be fine mate, even if you do crossfire that card :p

get the normal retail or OEM q6600 and depending upon how far you want to overclock that q6600, get a better cooler

i would personally go with

Your basket
Product Name Qty Price Line Total
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM £129.99
(£149.49) £129.99
(£149.49)
Thermalright TRUE Black 120 CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775) £34.99
(£40.24) £34.99
(£40.24)
Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin £7.99
(£9.19) £7.99
(£9.19)

Subtotal £172.97
£198.92 inc VAT (this is £4 more then your cpu and cooler selection)

for the cpu and cooler

the vx450 will be fine

also invest in 4GB of RAM (2x2GB)

if you stick with the ac7 pro cooler, it comes with mx-2 pre -applied and is quite good, so you dont need to buy AS5 unless you want to. preformance wise the two paste are almost equal.

the cooler comes pre applied with thermal paste which is better than as5.

don't bother getting the guaranteed clock chip, there's no difference. they'll all reach 3ghz

Thanks People, Forgot to mention, I already have 2GB RAM, hence only adding 2GB.I will Be running Vista Most probably, although I haven't really decided for sure. Thanks For the Quick replies.

Matt

I was about to suggest a dual core aswell. An 8400 will hit 4ghz without too much problem and general wisdom suggests that it's faster in most situations.

Only go for the quad if you do a lot of video editing IMO.

...or play a lot of Supreme Commander :D ...you'll be glad you bought a quad if you do.

I'm glad to see you decided to with 4GB of ram, it is really a must today if you want to play newer games or do some proper multitasking, and with the prices the way they are you'd be a bit silly not to just get a 4GB set straight off.
