Oppenheimer - 2023 Christopher Nolan & Cillian Murphy (birth of the Atom Bomb).

Can’t understand the IMAX hype for this one, it was mainly men talking in rooms (as Kermode said IIRC). It probably could have been trimmed down in running time significantly.

I also didn’t like the sort of cut away, CGI imaginings of Oppenheimer or the repeated foot stamping / clapping bits.

Probably 7/10 for me, no real desire to see it again any time soon.

I agree with you, Nolan is becoming a bit marmite for me. He's a great director because at least he's different but unnecessary length, loudness and pointless love stories that appear in this films sullen what could be epicly good cinema.

Just saw this last night on prime, and pretty much agree, saw Dunkirk in the cinema and it didn't do much for me that one

Meh. What a load of tosh and a tragically wasted opportunity. The music doesn't stop for longer than 5 seconds anywhere in the film either, and I never notice that kind of thing.

Loads of overhyped rubbish which I suspect only had the fans spaffing because Nolan.

What if you paid £24 to see it at the BFI IMAX, did none of those things and still found it to be quite average?

That’s your opinion, so whatever. The point that @n111ck was making is that it’s funny how movies almost invariably get worse reviews when you know the poster has watched it at home. You see the same on here when movies have just come out in the cinema, and some smartass posts their review saying “it was rubbish, I turned it off “ even when most others have thoroughly enjoyed it.

I know he's right, but there were a lot of posters here who didn't enjoy it at the cinema.

But absolutely, as soon as movies are released for home viewing the reviews are inevitably worse.

This is one of those rare movies that even if you have a massive OLED TV or projector at home with a very good sound system the experience is still drastically different in delivery of the movie compared to IMAX.

More often than not, you go to the cinema because you want to watch the movie, so obviously it'll get worse reviews when watched at home as a "what's on tv tonight" situation. Cinema is a different experience, but if the movie isn't of interest to you, no amount of IMAX "magic" will change it.

The writing wasn't strong enough to service 3 hours, especially in the first half.

I can’t really agree with this. Oppenheimer is on PPV, I’ve been waiting for it to come out, I paid for it. It’s not just a case of being bored and seeing what’s on.

Not saying it's the case for everyone as I'm sure there are people who wanted to watch it but didn't want to/couldn't go to the cinema, but there will also be a lot of people picking it up at home because it was marketed well and not because they have a genuine interest.

Way more accessible to pick it up on a streaming platform than go through the process of getting to a cinema.

Did anyone else feel massively underwhelmed when they set of the bomb, I thought it had failed at first cause it looked so small.

This was my first thought. I expected them to say it didn't work.

Not sure exactly what I was expecting, but something a bit bigger than that.

We stopped the film just after the test. Will be finishing off tonight.

Not one of Nolans' best. Feels like he's gone off the boil to be fair.
