Oppenheimer - 2023 Christopher Nolan & Cillian Murphy (birth of the Atom Bomb).

If anyone hasn't booked yet here's a good explanation of the different formats according to one of the assistant editors (6mins);

Having watched it for the third time on DCP yesterday, I can totally understand the preference for 70mm IMAX or even 70mm when comparing it to the premiere (yes I will keep bringing that up :D). Also, quite a few of my colleagues have seen it more than once and we are all in total agreement that it's just as good, if not better second time around. There's just so much to take in.

Good video. The IMAX cameras are massive. I sort of hate this format and aspect ratio carry on.

70mm IMAX has always been worth it for Nolan's films. The problem is that there are about 20 theatres in the country with IMAX screens and far fewer that can do 70mm. I've just checked my nearest (30 mins away) and every screening is fully booked out in imax for the next 3 days.

He also doesn't do Atmos because he feels that 5.1 allows each cinema to play the sound exactly the way he wants it.

Though if you actually go directly to the BFI IMAX site instead, it does say it's presented in 70mm IMAX, so looks like it's just that they've bodged the UK version of that site above because we probably don't have enough 70mm capable theatres to bother making a distinction.

Was gutted when the one in Brum at Millenium point was closed. Fact of that matter is that it was just too expensive too maintain. I went there 3 times and it was only ever half full which can't have helped.

I'm not really big on historical/war/biopics in general. I mean I've still watched loads of them and many were great, but it's not something I go to the cinema for. I'm sure I probably have seen some at the cinema in the last 30 years but nothing comes to mind.

So another one for streaming for me.
