Well it was a good interview but bad news, I didnt get the job due to the other guy knowing how to beakdown ovens.

But, as they are expanding after christmas 2017 he has asked me to stay in touch and keep upto date with what they are doing and offer me a job once they have expanded.

Sorry to hear that. However, as Ayahuasca says there's definitely more out there for a bloke like you. Push yourself, start hammering in the applications. Even if you think it's something you can't do/don't have the skills for get them in anyway.

Also do not be disheartened if you don't hear back/don't get interviews.

Cheers guys :) i'm getting help in the next few weeks to do a C.V and shall push. A friend i was talking to said she has a mundane job in the NHS but she's comfortable and ok with that. But takes home 19k (and benefits)a year for a 9-5 job.

& I dont feel disheartened that I didn't get it as nothing has changed. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

No idea who I want to work for with my current C.V as i've no desire to (move up) within retail to managment.

It sounds like a good opportunity. Take the job, learn the ins and outs and maybe in a few years you take the franchise yourself. ;)

Or just set up your own business without any of the franchise costs.

If you're a bit sneaky then you could start one up independently on the side and eventually quit the main job when you've started getting sufficient enquirers/customers. It isn't like some random oven cleaning company is a household name the way certain fast food brands are.

Maybe look at becoming a phlebotomist, some of the people working in that role in London really aren't too bright so presumably low standards, unless they've got in due to some sort of affirmative action on the part of the NHS (which might also make sense). I've had to go in for regular tests and had the same trainee two weeks apart... first time I wasn't fussed she was just new and everyone has to start somewhere... but two weeks later after shes had a fair bit of practice she's still got some other person sat over her showing her how to put the labels on and prompting her to ask for my name, date of birth etc... still managed to let the needle fall out this latest time and have the supervisor take over - how much practice does that job need?

If I had gotten the job their wouldnt have been any costs just being employed by the guy who owns apart of the franchise & its the 3rd largest oven cleaning franchise in the UK.

I wasn't talking about the job but the possible later franchise(which will cost money) look at the post I quoted.

Hi all,

Well a bit of a surprise on Xmas day I was asked if I wanted to do a days work experience with the job above (oven cleaning) so I could make my own mind up.

I did this today and enjoyed doing something different

Info overload and my brain is confused :/

- 15k starting on salery (before tax)

- Own boss / van with schedule 3 ovens a day or 2 depending what they are.

9-5 weekends off

They have seen I'm keen and the guy I worked with was happy with my performance & also a customer gave me a good word too. :)

I assume that 9-5 includes a break?

Otherwise 9-5 = 8hrs per day, = 2080 hours per year. NMW in April of 2017 is £7.50 which would mean you'd be entitled to £15,600 a year.

I don't see how anyone can make money on this, to be honest.

I got my oven cleaned recently for £60... two of these a day is £120 for the company.
Min wage is £60 a day (assuming 8 hours). Put on the Tax/NI/Pension costs, plus the chemicals, fuel, insurance, van lease and the like, it doesn't seem like there is much scope for expanding.

15,600 a year,

Everththing above (chemicals, fuel, insurance, van) is paid for by the company. 4th biggest oven cleaning in the UK.

they want 3x ovens cleaned in a working day.

Which I quite enjoyed doing my work experance and been asked if id like to go out again, it was very diffrent from retail.

Things cant be going too well for them if they've dropped from 3rd biggest oven cleaning company in the uk to the 4th in the last 6 months

I guess they may have some corporate contracts that either pay more or involve bulk orders where you clean multiple ovens. But it does look tough to make much profit after overheads.
