Its a 1990 1.8 CDi. I'm the second owner and its just covered 25K miles.

I've owned the car for 3 years buying it from an elderly lady (93) who had owned the car from new. Covering around 13K in its first year the owners health forced her to only use it to go shopping once a week. Its been garaged all its life and besides a few stone chips on the rear arch and a scuff on the bumper it's as it drove out of the factory, oh and the new towing eye cover that's a different shade of white!. Its never been undersealed (bar factory) but has a clean and health underside. In the last 6 years its done an average of 200 Miles per year.

Its not a fast or desirable so why do I have it? My first decent car was a '89 CDi exactly the same as this. I loved the car as it was fairly nippy and was affordable for a 19 year old at college. I've still got that CDi although its now been stripped and is awaiting the scrappers. So, when I saw this come up for sale I wanted it. Never going to be more than a car I take to shows but still special to me as I know there's not another as original.

Here's a few pics :)

Here's some of the bits you don't usually see.

Cleaning the Yellow wax that's applied at the factory. Makes everything look like its been subject to years of 40 fags a day!

Millage the day of purchase

You can see the wax they apply at the factory much better here. Its great for protecting the car but makes it look nasty :(

This is the day I got it back home. Along with the older one. The older one had GTE suspension, Mk3 GSi wheels and an Astra GTE Engine. My brother did the conversion as the original 1.8 had given up and we had an old GTE in storage that was a bit manky. Made for great fun as the car weighed around 1000KGs and the engine had a healthy 155BHP.

Not bad!

Advertise it on a Vauxhall related forum & I'd bet you'll double that easily. :)

I'm on most of those sites :)

I did want to keep it as is forever but my hunger for a track toy keeps bugging me to sell.

I've been offererd £1500 so far which I'm happy with. Just can't let go :(

Can't let go eh? - just like your other Astra it seems! :D

Can't you let your XR2 go either? :D

Yeah the other Astra is just a shell but I keep putting off its disposal lol.

The XR2 went earlier this year. That had been garaged for nearly 8 years. Sold it to a guy who wanted to restore it to concourse condition. It was really tidy for a 1985 Fiesta. Not a lot of rust and a really strong engine. I do miss my old cars lol.

I've only just sold My Mk3 Astra Turbo. Down to 2.5 Cars and a motorbike now.

Jeez, takes me back to my younger days, i used to have a black 1.6gl and a white 1.8sri (both f platers) and at the time they were the dogs :)

Nice clean Astra. Never could get to grips with the awful dashboard on the passenger side.

My Manta has the same wax under the bonnet, as does Kate's Golf. It's staying. It might look dodgy but it helps prevent corrosion.

I agree its great for stopping corrosion but the car barely see's daylight and never goes out in the rain. The area I cleaned 3 years ago is still as clean and I've not touched it since :)

That's a really nice example.

I used to have one exactly like that, followed by a GTE 8V and then a GTE 16V, so much fun back then. Shame they all rusted away!
