OP's Mk2 Astra CDi

That's great. Much nicer for a daily drive in some respects, actually feel like you're doing something and with a car like that, of that age and period, virtually nil hangups or likely issues anyway.

Its lovely to drive and good one fuel. I've only had to replace the water pump which started to leak due to it being garaged for so long. Besides tyres the last part changed was the starter motor in 1999.

That's a really nice example.

I used to have one exactly like that, followed by a GTE 8V and then a GTE 16V, so much fun back then. Shame they all rusted away!

I wanted a 16v'er but couldn't afford it at 19 so went for the 1.8 8V CDi. Not as sporty but not far off the performance of the 1.8 GTE.

When I'd added the GTE suspension and 16v engine to the old one it was kinda the best of both worlds. Just as fast as the GTE but didn't look like anything special.

I've not been on there much tbh. Mostly MIG, Vauxsport, Astra-Mk2.com and Mkoc.com

Tried looking for pics as he's changed it a bit but couldn't find any. Could you sort me a link if there are any on there?

He's not posted any pics but it's currently having the head replaced due to it melting between 2 cylinders! Running lean due to lack of fuel pressure apparently.

You're kidding!!

It had been running perfectly since I bought it in March. Do you know if he increased the boost?

I fitted an uprated pump, webber fuel pressure regulator, VXR injectors and a wideband gauge. In theory it can't have run lean without the wideband showing it! I even set it to over fuel slightly to avoid this!

Would really like to know what happened as I can't see how without something being messed with.

Gutted tbh as it had a full rebuild just before I bought it and I spent ages making sure the fuelling was spot on!

Boost was set to 16PSI but the fuelling was higher than needed. The wideband went into the 10's on boost. It should have been high 11's, early 12's for a text book setup on that engine so 10's is a good safety margin.

The fuel pressure may appear to be below standard to someone who thought it was running standard injectors. However VXR's have a higher flow rate therefore are set to a lower pressure.

Really gutted for him. Will be interesting to know the exact circumstances to get a better picture of what happened.
