Opt 144 OC WOW! However.....

I've got my Opteron 144 running stable at 3.006Mhz! (16Hrs Prime95, plus stable through 3DMark, CrystalMark etc)

However, I have recently install a 7800GT which I'm 99% sure is the reason for some random crashing. The PC will freeze under varying conditions; Idle through to full load in a game.

My initial though was unstable PSU? It's a Jeantech 500W.Or possible board voltage unstable?

I'm running:

Opteron 144 @ 3.006Mhz
7800 GT OC to 450/1.16
2GB Standard PC3200
Asus A8N32-SLi

However, at Idle all voltages are stable and yet it still freezes up?

Any input/comments - Thanks!

I haven't checked the voltages when under load, only at idle.

I'm running CPU at 1.52 V, am going to try lower volts tonight.

Will check PSU specs tonight, 12V is reading 12.1V, 5V is reading 5V and 3.3V is reading 3.34V but this is as I say all at idle.

So the general thought is voltages?

Cheers guys

def sounds like psu to me not enough power

The power is fine its just the amps on the 12v line is a little low

I am running my setup (see sig) on a 460w Akasa .. 2x DVD burners...4x 80mm LED fans..TV card.. Audigy 2 soundcard ect... and the rest no problems :)

Get shot of that PSU. The psu is definatly not an area where to save money on. If that gets too overloaded and goes then the rest of your hardware might just end up going with it.

I will suggest to get a Tagan U22 580W psu. These are great for single and SLI / CF use. Over 35A on the 12v line. Or when spilt into 2 12v lines, you get 20A on each.

Have you got a volt meter? Try to measure the actual volts on the 12v line by reading from a spare molex connector when the rig is running.

Anyways, very nice overclock :D Whats the stepping / week of your 144 ?

My stepping CAB2E 6020 ....... Didn't write it own :S

I'm deffinitly getting a new PSU, though there's been no freezing up in the last few days.

Are there any programs that can record voltages over a time? I.e. while i'm playing a game set it recording to give me a graph over a set period?

Cheers

you must meant 0602 cus 0620 is a future CPU :p

for voltage reading, dont trust any software, get an DMM ;)

Nah got it from Eclipse, work just down the road so easy to pop into. Got OEM model.

Not too sure on PSU, not too sure what to go for. Dont want to spend too much but know very little about who's good/bad etc. Any advice?
