Hi there, just been looking at some processors, and it has come my attention that a lot of people seem to have opterons (why is this ?)

I am upgrading soon and had decided on getting the x2 3800 but now i have seen the opteron 165.....i know that the opteron has more l2 cache (how much difference does this make)

bearn in mind i will be pairing it with a x1800xt/7600gt, 2 x 1gb RAM, asus a8n sli, 260 wd SATA

i won't really be overclocking (dont really know how, though i might dabble :) ) and will be mainly using my computer for, final year uni work (video editing/photoshop) and also for playing games.

I would like my computer to last for a while, what would you clever people reccomend i go for......i was gonna use the freezer 64 with my x2 3800, so really i was just thinking in terms of price...... (as an x2 3800 with freezer 64 is as much as an opteron 165 with the stock fan.....)

thanks in advance

Kiz

but how about if im not going to overclock @ all (what with me being a noobie and all, and not wanting to risk destroying my stuff.....) ?

Thanks,

the main reason i asked this question was because, in terms of performance if the opteron was better i would get that based on stock levels.......because (just thinking in terms of price) an opteron is the same price as an x2 3800 + freezer 64...... ;)

sorry to be a pain in the A**
