Opteron overclock..

Ok, so this is my first go at overclocking! And i think i've got it. I've only just started testing the limits of my cpu, but im not taking it any further than 2.8 as that is the best stable speed for an Opteron IMO.

Limit of FSB = 319mhz Before it reboots.

Limit of CPU = Only taking it to 2.8ghz anyway.

My voltage is 1.50v Standard. I had to up the volts 0.1v to get my cpu sitting at 2797.27mhz without erroring out on prime95, is that too much volts? Is that counted as 2.8 by the way or should i up the mhz a tiny bit more to get 2805.59mhz?? Also, i would like to ask if my temps are ok? I am 100% under load and i have been for about 10-15 minutes now, and its been sitting at 40c for a while. I hope 40c isn't damaging my cpu, would it? I am on the stock cooler too, i think i am going to get a Freezer64 pro asap though. Thanks for any feedback! Sorry for all the questions. :p

I'd say 1.65v is ok on air. 40C is well below the temp limit for an Opteron.

Thanks for the feedback. I usually am about 28c idling with my cpu, and about 36 on load. With the stock HSF. And really? I read about 0.1v on top of what you are running standard is most probably the limit. Or maybe im imagining things or read it wrong lol :p

I'm sure 1.65v wont kill it. Having said that, theres no point upping voltage 0.1v for 200mhz. See what you need for 2.9 stable.

Damn! It just gave me an error on prime95.. Ran it for 22 minutes and it gave me one error and no warnings. Maybe i will have to up the voltage a little bit more?

Havent used Epox since 440BX\Celeron I days, so not familiar with their bioses...

If you want a quick stability test, try a superpi 32m run.

Ah yeh.. I was going to use that yesterday. But decided for prime 95. I'll give it a go now see what happens. This isj ust the normal not the ultra epox board, dunno if that matters though?

What am i looking for in superpi though? an error?

Btw the Epox board automatically puts the volts up to 1.5v, the stock for 90nm opterons is 1.4v, so I wouldnt go above 1.575. You should be able to do 2.8 at 1.5v or maybe 1.55v but as said previously do not go up 0.1v for 100mhz especially if already at 1.55v.

It gave me errors on prime95, at 1.5 for my opteron :-/ Should i put the volts back down then???

Sorry to DP but i put the volts back down to 1.5v and added .5v. Now, i tried the largest test with SuperPi, and it passed all of them, but when i try prime95 again it fails after the first line. What does this mean? :-/

Still not fully stable.

Hmm ok.. well im not entirely sure then how to make it stable.. As i don't wanna increase the volts TOO much, but it seems to be only stable in prime95 when the volts are at 1.6v. Is there anyway i can keep the volts the same as i have now (1.554v) But have a stable cpu?

The HTT is on 2x and my RAM is on 100mhz.

Try raising chipset and\or HTT voltage slightly.

You dont need them that low.

Ok i'll raise the chipset voltage a tiny bit, but i cant seem to find the HTT voltage. I raised the RAM to 133mhz and the HTT up to 3x.

Edit: Also, the Chipset voltage was on 1.5 i raised to 1.6 as that was the smallest i could raise it.

Its ok, i'm new to this and have been having a bit of trouble as after trying that setting in super pi it was fine but prime95 it failed, so i fiddled with some more settings, took the fsb up so the cpu went up to 2.8 and then it rebooted itself, i dunno what im doing wrong :/

Edit: 2.8 is the absolute maximum we should take it to?
