Optical Drive Opening / Closing

I haven't used the CD/DVD drive for years. Nut, this morning the drawer continually opens and closes. I have uninstalled it in device manager and disabled autoplay. However it is still doing it. Any ideas why it's happening and how to stop it - besides opening the case and removing the power lead. Thanks.

unplug the data cable and see if it still happens. If it does then it must be the drive itself and you can unplug the power lead or remove it. I think unplugging it would have been the first and only thing I would have done

Thanks for the useful and no so useful advice. Ran AV and Malware programmes just in case. But am left with just disconnecting it. I thought maybe there was a known problem apart from the switch. Thanks again.
