Optical Mouse with a good sensor?

On a budget though. £40 tops.

I have a nice Sharkoon Fireglider Rush (Laser) up to 3600dpi although I am well aware that DPI isn't everything. I play FPS games most of the time, but I do sometimes play Mobas.

The software and compatibility of my Fireglider is a bit, meh since Windows 8.1, but it's only occasionally, however every now and then the cloth or a cat hair will send the laser sensor mad and the cursor will either wobble on the same spot as I move the mouse or go off in a random direction - though this doesn't happen often.

I'm wanting an Optical Mouse, with a reliable, good tracking sensor. Reasonable DPI and a good build & cable quality if possible.

Today I've spent at least 3 hours constantly searching and it is DOING MY NUT IN! The Logitech G400 seemed great but half of those have cable issues. The G400s still has smoothing issues and many other mice have horrid angle snapping, which is something I definitely do not want as a FPS player. Razer has stupid software and are quite pricey and the Deathadder 2013 has incredibly soft left and right click buttons.

I've read over a million articles and all it has done is pretty much made me uncertain about purchasing anything.

The build quality of my Fireglider Rush (black) which I got for £19 a while a go, is insanely good, I doubt anything can beat it. It's all sort of soft rubbery plastic, with the sides being super grippy. It has 2 side buttons which are essential to me for VOIP and fire rate switching. It has telfon feet, teflon spares, a dpi switch, a triple fire button near the mouse wheel and a braided cable. It even has weight tuning in a pistol barrel style which is completely removable and hell, they even through in a carry bag. £19. :|

Any suggestions?

Tiny bit over your budget but I've found the latest version of the sensors on Zowie mice to have the most consistant and reliable tracking of any mouse I've used. Build quality seems ok feels/looks a little tiny bit plasticy but so far I've found it even more robust than it looks.

^ This, ZOWIE are no frills gaming mice, with just the best core components. Their sensors are known to be one of the best around. Check out the ZOWIE FK - Great mouse!

For £40 your best 2 options are Deathadder and G400S

They're both flawless optical sensors. The Logitech will have arguably better build quality. There's nothing else flawless around this price range, except Microsoft Intellimouse but they're low DPI (not a bad thing but I find low DPI awkward to use in Windows) and Razer Abyssus but it has no thumb buttons which is a dealbreaker for me.

The Corsair Raptor M40 is an awesome for gaming, general usage etc. Can't recommend it enough

Wow didn't know this used a Avago ADNS 3090. Definitely worth looking into.

My budget is 50 now ha. I was leaning towards the G400s a lot before I posted the topic here but I'm concerned about the tracking and the durability of the lead. Some folks have experienced that the mouse will track further in one direction than the other, whilst others say the G400s has similar lead issues that the G400 had.

Reviews for the ZOWIE FK are a little discouraging.

This is madness, it's a freaking mouse and you have to pop loads to get a decent one. That isn't asking too much, surely?

Durable plastic, good grip, 7 buttons (2 side), good optical sensor and a lead that doesn't kill the device after 2 years of use. Impossible? :|

Was going to just stick with reviews and get the Razer Deathadder 2013 but... it's... green. :|

Whats discouraging about them? I've been using the FK for a few months now and love it - it is however IMO a mouse that will only appeal to people moving on from the WMO1.1a or similiar mice that use 1:1 mapping, middle ground sensitivity and 400-800dpi. Probably not for people who like extremely low sensitivity/stupidly high DPI settings.

I'll spend an extra fiver and get the Roccat Kone Pure Optical. I've checked this one out before but it seems I've ended back at this one. Apparently it has a true stepping, which does 400, 800, 1200, 1600, 2000 and 3200 and 4K without interpolation. Hopefully that is true because I like 1200dpi.

+ no angle snapping

+ braided cable

So I just packed up my Roccat Kone Pure Optical, and I'm back to my reasonably well built Sharkoon Fireglider Laser mouse. Oh it's good to be back.

I have smallish hands, but not super small. The Kone Pure Optical is tiny which allows me to palm grip it, but the shape is evidently designed for palm grippers, so that wasn't so bad. What was bad was the soft touch rubber, all over the damn thing. It was slipper as hell, but fortunately when my hands sweat a little it got easier to hold.

Now the big issue with that mouse is the lift off distance, which is precisely why for the second time in 2 days I've quit my BF4 game in the middle of a round because when I turn and ultimately pick my mouse up a tiny bit, the LoD is horrendous! It's like 2 cm high and as the mouse travels back down to the surface it is reading constantly, so the mouse on the screen is swaying somewhat. Unbelievable!

The good points of this mouse are the mouse wheel, build quality, all of the buttons and the braided cable. Also the software is brilliant, but the deal breakers without a doubt are that stupid coating and that horrendous, awful, evil lift off!

At this rate I'm considering just sticking with my Fireglider Black (Rush series) even if whenever I boot Windows 8.1 the Sharkoon Mouse Editor claims that it doesn't support this USB 3.0 chip (even if it is swapped over to a 2.0). Funny because it worked prior to Windows 8.1. Sharkoon seem adament that it is hardware failure, but whilst this thing continues to track very well I don't know what other options I have.

Scrapping Optical and I'll go with either now because Optical is a limited selection. I'll mostly always be using a SteelSeries QcK cloth and cat hair is always going to stick to it (I often find isolating hairs and picking them off my cat decides to sit on it).

So I'm back at square one. How annoying.

Now I'm yet to find another mouse, good build quality, good buttons, a good cable, good mouse sensor, at least 1 side button (for my rather short thumb) and a quality sensor.

I did check out the Zowie FK but I'm not so sure, not only did they stupidly only make it in an annoying yellow colour, but I hear their button quality (mostly the MMB and sides) aren't so great - although their sensor choices are good.

Damn you ROCCAT! :@

I'm primarily a palm gripper btw, but if I play mobas occasionally I'm sort of hybrid between palm and claw.

Even with the weight tuning system in my Fireglider, in palm grip I can pick the mouse up, it's like stuck to my hand, not in a sticky way, but just by the grip of my hand. My thumb and ring finger on the right hand. Mental.

This is going to be incredibly difficult...

Same sensor as my Fireglider Black, practically no lift off, no angle snapping that I can tell.

Edit: Nope, my Fireglider Black has a ADNS 6010.
