Hi there, i have just received sky HD, and bought a optical cable to use my pioneer XD-DV55 surround sound system, one problem tho

there is NO sound coming from the system, I have checked and double checked the connections and they are fine, no settings to change on the system its self, I have changed the sound settings on the sky HD box but no joy?

any help?

thanks very much!

Just to be sure..On the Sky HD box you went in to the settings menus, changed the sound output to Optical, and then saved by pressing the green button, right?

You then took a working optical cable (i.e. one that you checked with another source such as a DVD player to be sure it's working fine) and connected the Sky box optical output to one of the AV amps optical inputs (i.e. not an output). The Video 2 optical input would be simplest.

After that you selected to appropriate source on the amp, right? V2 would be the one to go for if you plugged in to the Video 2 Optical Input in the back.

Whatever happens you should get at least stereo sound at this point. If not, then as long as you have done all the above correctly then it's time to troubleshoot (recheck the Opt cable, connect to a different input on the Pioneer, try a different optical source) and if that fails then call Sky with a suspected faulty box.

hi lucid thanks for taking the time to reply
i have since sorted the problem by downloading the manual for the amp and i had to tell it to use optical inputs! silly me should have checked the manual first!

thanks!

You're welcome.

I'd have suggested checking the amp settings, but you specifically said that no amp settings needed to be changed - lol!

yes i know i sed that because i could not find a setting to change! the way i had to change it was quite complex, sorry for that!
