I wanted to try an idea i had so i went and bought an optical cable to hook up my PS3 with the frontbay of my x-fi fatal1ty and whooohooo it worked, well it partialy worked there is sound in the frontscreen while navigating the menus and for watching downloaded trailers but when i got to play a game, there is sound when the ps3 logo appaers then nothing when the game loads and i havent a clue why, surely if it worked in the menus then it should work ingame?

My PS3 is hooked up to my DVD surround system (JVC). I noticed that between the menus and a game or dvd the sound cuts off and then back on. I know this as the surround sound system has a digital display that shows it has lost its feed, then reconects. Only does it when it cuts to the black screen and never during playback.

I havent suffered from it loosing sound between a PS3 DVD and menu perminatly, but i have lost it twice when loading a USA demo. Thought it was just the demo, but now i think it might be a problem with the latest PS3 firmware.

I do suffer from the sound crackling on low frequency stuff now and then, rebooting the PS3 does the trick so its not right somewhere.

I went back into the sound menu on the console and switched off all the additional sound options i added like DD5.1 and DTS 5.1 and sound has come back in game demos, but the main reason why i was connecting thru my soundcard was for the 5.1 sound. while i had the 5.1 enable my sound also cut out on the black screen or thats what it sounded like.

And just incase anyone asks no my old creative surrond sound speakers dont have optical, hence using the frontbay of my card, which is connected to the old style 5.1 amp with my medusa 5.1 ss headphones.

When the PS3 logo appears, the PS3 is switching sound to Dolby Digital 5.1 and is sending the sound stream as such. You will need to have a Dolby Digital decoder for you to get any sound. Perhaps the soundcard can only do DD through Windows software and doesn't have a hardware decoder?

When navigating the menu I only hear every other "navigation" sound in the dash but in games and movies I have no issues.

I had problems getting my 5.1 amp to work right in windows 2 cards didn't send the right signal until i got a hda xposion card which i use a optical cable with.

Q

Maybe it can only OUTPUT a DD/DTS signal - it can't process an incoming one? The reason I say this is because it just mentions Bitstream OUT?
