I know its a bit late in the game, but every bit helps right.

I was running the 5.4.9 from the Berkley page. I downloaded the relevant client from this page http://calbe.dw70.de/boincw.html and copied it to the Boinc folder, were it overwrote two files.

Then downloaded the app and the app_info.xml from this page http://calbe.dw70.de/setiew.html and stuck the files in the setiathome.berkley.edu folder that is in the projects folder within the Boinc folder. This didnt overwrite anything.

Is this right, or have I missed something ?

Sounds ok.

When you start boinc, do you get :

Code:
SETI@home Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform

I move previous versions of clients out of the folder so that boinc doesn't get confused.

Yup it says that so it seems ok. Thanks.

The previous versions seem to have vanished on their own.

Any reason for not making the swap mid wu or at least without running the cache down ?

No reason at all, but to be safe, copy the Boinc directory as a backup just incase.

I don't, but I get the general idea. Alienating your most loyal members is no way to go about running a project. I only had two PCs left on SETI.

When they sort out the credit mess and bad feelings, I may go back.

7 years of almost non-stop SETI crunching comes to an end.

A sad day indeed, a correctly moded forum over there would go a long way to help the situation out. they seem to think that a free speach forum means you can **** all and sundry off then wonder why they get the hump and leave. Need a size 10 handbag just to post :D

I can't say I fully understand what's going on, but from what I've read it does all seem a bit silly. It won't be putting me off SETI though, I will be sticking with it for the time being. Having said that I have been looking at some of the more obscure projects; Eon, Leiden Classic, QMC etc. and am thinking about trying them out on one of my boxes to see if they are worth switching to.

I think I will stick around on seti just because the forum is so funny atm, now its strike time over there so i'm just waiting for it all to implode :D under its own weight of ****, plus being a stat whore it means I can move even farther up  :D

Gotta say I'm addicted to the drama over there. :p

Only really read the odd post every now and then untill all this kicked off, now I cant wait for the next installment. I love it when someones clearly posted in a fit of rage and failed to make much sense. :p

Tis sad for Seti though :( for the first time ever ive thought of the possibility of stopping. I just wish someone would make a complete and reasoned argument. They are all going off over differant things, were I feel its a culmination of many things over the history of the project that has brought us to this mess.

Took me about an hour of reading last night just to get up to speed on what on earth is going on over there. But it really is quite pathetic. I agree it seems like several things culminating in this though.

Just for the record, Crunch3r has now asked that anyone who is/was using his optimised applications please remove them.

Whether you do is of course your own decision. I doubt there will be any more optimised applications from anyone for a while.
