Option to upgrade to 2080 Super from 1080Ti Advice needed

Hello everyone,

So I currently have a Zotac 1080TI and have had it now for about a year and a half.

I game at 1440p, and it has been serving me fairly well, not really had to many issues graphic setting wise except on a couple of the latest games.

I have the option to upgrade to a 2080 Super for my 1080TI + £150.00 and just wanted to ask if anyone had upgraded from a 1080Ti to the 2080 super and found it worthwhile. For me the £150.00 I would have to add towards the super does not seem to bad, and whilst RTX may not be what we had hoped so far, I am interested to at least experience it.

Is the performance of the 2080 super better than the 1080ti at all?, I know the 2080 started to beat the 1080ti in some games and benchmarks with the newer drivers etc

Any thoughts appreciated

Cheers

Don't get the 2080 Super, see is there an option to side grade to the 2070 Super. That way you satisfy your curiosity about the Ray Tracing for next to nothing.

The 2080 Super isn't worth the £150 extra.

Hmm thank you for the comments all, will have a think over the next coming weeks.

I liked the suggestion of the 2070s, though for me I would feel it as a downgrade. Whilst the performance of the 2080s may not be a massive leap over the 1080ti, I do feel there would be some gains in certain games

Nah man, don't be fooled. The difference between the 2070 Super and the 2080 Super is really small. I would pay £150 if there was a difference I would actually notice, but, in most games you won't.

It's your money of course and if you think you are getting good value for your £150 by getting the 2080 Super then go ahead and get it :) As long as you are happy.

Have you a Gsync monitor?

Outside of RTX, the 2080S and 1080Ti are pretty much the same in performance. I personally wouldn't drop £150 on that.

I'm with melmac, if you want to dabble in RTX, the 2070S should be doable in a cost-neutral manner, and whilst you would take roughly a 10% performance hit (how much that matters depends on how things are currently running for you), it would still have RTX functions and wipe the floor with the 1080Ti for that specific use.

Are there any rumours at all when the next batch of graphics cards could be released?

None. But I would imagine, since they only just released the Super cards, it will be at least April/May next year before they release the next generation of cards.
