Hi, been thinking about posting for this for a while, going to ring up my uni tommorow and explain the circumstances but i realy dont enjoy my course, ive just finished my first year, of computer studies degree level, i want to change course but im worried ill be to late to apply for a change ive already purchased my house next year, anyone have any experience on changing course, and what happens to your previous marks etc? do you get any credit for those. Will sort it out tommorrow but wanted the ocuk view.

Before the end of the year was up I felt the same as you on my Advertising & Marketing course, basically; I felt Marketing was full of idiots and my advice is to speak to the head of the department of the course you want to leave, and also to the one you want to join and if they overlap at all that'll help. I'm moving to Business & Advertising and after speaking to these two and having a meeting it was sorted.

Student services will help you out, but if you're going totally off-kilter course-wise then you may have to repeat year one again, depending on whether you're interviewed or not, all depends really.

No personal experience but my mate changed courses last year no probs. He changed from media production to media and culture and was allowed to continue at 2nd year level, im guessing because of the similarities between the courses. If you want to change to a similar course and the uni is half decent you shouldn't have a problem.

I told my uni i wanted to change course 3 weeks after starting my degree, they said give it to the end of the year, naturally i failed. (had the best year of my life though) and then switched over summer and started a new 3 years. Theres not usually a problem switching over summer, its whether theyll let you into the 2nd year of another degree or whether you have to start again. More than likly theyll let you into 2nd year if youve passed or 1st year if youve failed a core module or are starting something completely and utterly different to computing.

You'll be fine though :) iv just finished my second 1st year, i switched from computing to accounting and loving it, think i actually peferred having an extra useless year, meant i can make more friends, and have an extra year of uni, and lets face it, uni is absolutely amazing (esp. if you go to newcastle). only problem is i leave with an extra 7k of debt, but id say the benefits far outweigh that.

I think most unis are fine with you changing courses. But of course you will have to do another first year unless they are quite similar courses.

im fine with doing another first year but im just hoping they let me start this course, this year, how late do requests to change course or join a new course for new starts take? i cant remember when i applied.

my bf dropped out last year and is now going back but to do a different course. Starting in second year as the 2 courses are so similar. it can be done you just need to go talk to the right departments

he's struggling to get in contact with people at the minute so we dont even know if hes going back yet

the head of business is on holiday but has replied, i need to meet them to sign papers to transfer and check my suitability for the course, now i need to rehearse a speech. =D
