Hey all. Like hopefully most of you i have had a fairly good Christmas. Got stuff i need, spent some time with the family, enjoyed Christmas dinner and playing with the kids new toys:D

However there is one thing that has really (insert expletive) me off:eek:

Is it just me or is the food you get when eating out complete carp. Went to works party in a hotel in Belfast and the food was terrible. Served cold, a steak no bigger than a Burger King burger and One and a half hours to serve a Three coarse meal.

So thinking it couldnt happen twice I went to a local resturant today at £30.00 a head and it was rubbish.

Do these people who are obviously making a clean fortune (wanted £10.00 each for two sausage and chips for the twins who are under Two years old) just not care anymore. Has it really come down to just getting the numbers up as well as the profits:confused:

Bit of a rant i know but was wondering if things were any better across the water.

BTW Happy New Year everyone. Thankfully my good lady is cooking that day:p

I have always felt that works meals at this time of year are very poor food quality wise and was one of the reasons i avoided them at my previous jobs. They just care about number of people and what they can get away with charging.

I was in TGI's today for a meal with friends and for 3 of us and their 2 year old it came to £58 and was a meal we all enjoyed. Some places seems to stay the same over this time of year but others do get very lazy and serve up rubbish food.

We went out for lunch on xmas day and it was terrible.
At 40 quid per head and it was very disapointing.
very small portions, potatoes were undercooked, service wasnt great.
Also, the crackers were pathetic, may seem irrelevant - but last xmas we were at a resteraunt just down the road and the crackers were amazing - bottles of minitures etc in them (in fact, everything there was far superior - and it was cheaper :| )

My Dad went to his Christmas dinner and came back early because the food took so long and the last course didnt come at all. Usually the restaurant is quite reputable. What ****** Dad off the most was the fact that they didnt seem to care at all.

I guess its what its generally like in the UK.. food isnt as obsessed over as it is in other countries.. you can go to crummy little restaurants in italy or france etc and you'll eat epictasting food.. rememeber coming back from holiday and tasting some cruddy frozen chocolate pudding thingy from tesco... urgh!

If you're on your own (i.e. in a small group), do complain! In a smart place (not Pizza Express etc.), most of the time, the manager is very apologetic and will ask what you think would be fair to pay for the meal. They also often give you their business card and remember you next time you come and will greet you properly and give you a free drink or something.

I never complain for the sake of it, but I will not hesitate if I'm not satisfied with the meal.

Aye was with kids out at a half decent place took so long to get starters I said stuff it they let us off our bill (4 starters + 3/4 pints + Soft drinks) and said sorry if you come again see me and i'll take care of you ;)

(it wasn't a mafia or gay place either!)

Nope, it's not just you. These places are onto a nice little money maker at Christmas and obvious don't care about repeat custom.

Usually our work meals are great as we don't go to the "3 meals for £30" kind of places. However this year we did and it was awful. Small portions, badly cooked, bad service...

Luckily the company was paying and the booze was free flowing.

I've been to a few do's recently where the food wasn't great and the service dreadful but the company I was with were sorting out a tip and complementing the chef. Maybe my standards are just that bit higher than others but either way I've just kept schtum rather than ruin the evening.

I'f I'd organised it though, I'd be making sure someone was aware of the issues.

Most of the time its "you get what you pay for".

Theirs a pub oposite my grandparents house, its ok for a few pints but the food is awfull and i noticed that something i nearly ate was not cooked properly so we all promptly left. They always have a banner up saying free kids meal etc.

I always try to avoid places that are not idealy located (near an council estate) etc.

I went out Christmas eve to a new place called "The Monkey Tree"

Had a two course meal including a pint of shandy (driving) that came to £10!!!
It was fapping lovely :D, place was fresh (suppose it had to be, it was brand new) and the staff were that friendly, for a moment I thought I'd pulled!!

the meal i had with work tasted like someone had splurged toothpaste over the top of it, couldnt even smell it let alone eat it

I've had 2 meals out this Xmas - one on Tuesday at a pub in High Beach in Epping Forest, and another yesterday at The Wooden Fender in Ardleigh, Colchester.

Both were absolutely excellent, large portions, not rushed at all, and not experienced what you have.
