Oracle VM VirtualBox

What is the best OS to use on VirtualBox? I want to put XP on it but there are no free versions of XP, so will have to be Linux...can anyone recommend the best 1 to use?

I would say to experiment. If youi don't like, just delete the VM and create a new one - not much timed wasted either.

What do you want to use the OS for?

Virtual Box only takes 32-bit, just so you know

And you can run linux with windows, by using wubi. Have it all downloaded but didn't try yet

I use Virtual box for my Linux Ubuntu, and found nothing wrong with it.

Was told virtual box only takes 32-bit, I never tried myself

Why not just have a play with various versions? I've found PinguyOS good for "ready to use" and Ubuntu and Mint 12 for more of a play around (given my very limted linux experience I've found it helpful to look at PinguyOS and try to replicate some of its configuration on Ubuntu or Mint).
The best bit is that its trivial to break it and revert back to an older snapshot - great for learning on.

That Pinguy OS is very good, I like the GUI, beats having to download a hud.

Closest I've found to a drop in "replacement" for windows no faffing around required.
A good candidate to replace XP on some relatives computers I'm inevitably asked "to have a look at while your here" at this time of year!

I can state as fact that it takes 64-bit when running 32-bit OS.

I ran Windows XP 32-bit, and used Oracle to emulate W7 64-bit.

Don't think you can fault Linux Mint.

Has an extremely user friendly software manager. Because it's based off Debian/Ubuntu there is no shortage of tutorials for it.

It runs straight out of the box.
