Hi,

More of a heads up than anything, but Orange just called to offer me a "4G Sim Card". I queried with the gent who called me and he did state I'll be able to get 4G speeds, no change in my contract term or pricing. Also bumped up the data to 2gb for an extra fiver.

Throughout the call, he was referring to himself as being from Orange, not EE...

I bet it's Still probably with EE mate.

Do you have a 4G phone?

Technically it's all EE's network, but previously if you wanted to switch from Orange to EE you had to change to an EE tariff. I'm keeping mine, no change to my 18m term just the extra £5 which was optional for more data allowance.

I have a 4G/LTE phone, and live in a 4G area - hence the call I think.

Ah I see, interesting. Have you got the SIM yet? orange branded?

Literally just got off the phone from him :p

You 100% orange called you? Sounds like a reseller.

He identified himself from Orange, didn't mention EE at all even when I questioned the 4G/Contract terms. I didn't give out any information to him, so even if it was a reseller; they can't really do anything.

Edit: Just called the number back, and the automated message says it's Orange calling about 4G on EE's network.

Technically you can get "4G speeds" using DC-HSPA, do you have an LTE device? It might be simply upselling people on LTE devices mid-contract. BigBruiserAl works at Orange and can probably tell you if they are doing outbound in-life upgrades like this.

The reason I'm so cautious is this is the number 1 method of illegal contract re-signup - they sell you an "upgrade" but it actually resets your contract to full length (and it's just SIM-O) and you're left holding the baby. I hope this is just an upsale but I always worry that people might get stiffed, that's all :)

I have a HTC One which is 4G/LTE, he knew this and also knew my area is 4G enabled (which it is). I had the same concerns which is why I specifically asked if my contract would remain with the same current terms, he said yes and read out no t&c's. If they do try one on, rest assured I'll be having words with them.

No, I've not had my phone for over a week cos it's getting repaired, so I've not really thought about chasing it tbh. I might give them a call later and see what they say.

An EE branded SIM card turned up this morning, I'll set it up and take a look at my account to make sure that my tariff is intact and not moved to an EE one!
