Hi All,

Has Orange started blocking VPN connections?

I've not tried in a month or 3, so I assumed it was the upgrade from Android 2.1 to 2.2 that killed it, but if I use my 3 SIM in the handset it connects fine.

Anyone else seeing this??

EDIT: I'm on Pay Monthly and have the 'unlimited' Internet add on if is relevant.

Well I used it to connect to the Orange/EverythingEverywhere VPN this morning so I want to say no but there might be something I don't know. Best bet is to phone up CS and ask if there's anything on the account that might block it. I can tell you we have millions of business customers and if we blocked VPN it would be an exceptionally bad move for business (they use the same APN).

Ironically, that was the last time it worked (I used to head up the Bristol Datacentre Management Team for Core Network Delivery looking after the Datacentres in BDP and Parkgate) but that isn't a PPTP VPN, but an IPSEC VPN.

It's just a little odd that with the same handset with a 3 SIM in it worked fine into my PPTP server, but with the Orange SIM it didn't. I thought that they might have stopped VPN connectivity for handsets, but not for dongles.

I have a friend with the same handset on Orange - I'll get him to test and see what happens there.

Similar handset, same plan, same problem - odd.

I'll raise it in the forums of the firewall distro and see if they can work out what's going on according to my logs.

Hi PistolPete,

The issue may have something to do with your account from this side of things. My suggestion would be to call Customer Services on 150 from an Orange phone or 07973 100150 from any other.

Hope this helps!

40mins on the phone to 150 and it's sorted.

Initially I was told that no non-business customer should be able to be able to use VPN services. When I explained I used it since day 1 with them several years back and for nearly 2 years to VPN into the Oranges own Corporate VPN solution when I worked for them he disppeared off for ages.....then came back and said VPN is and should be blocked on the normal internet APN, but he's moved me over to another APN and now it's back to working.

Not sure if there was a misconfiguration before that someone 'fixed' or whether signing up to roam on the T-Mobile network caused an issue.

orange have a internetvpn setting but they need to switch it on their end.

be aware from reading the google groups orange frontline support are rubbish on this you may need to call a few times or ask to be transferred up to higher support.

i did this to fix google goggles but since then the new update fixed that.
