My mates on orange broadband and it says hes connected but internet explorer won't do ne thing, no page loads it just says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage. When trying to go on the PS3 it then says DNS server not found or something?

Ne ideas?

I have tried resetting the temp internet folder, cookies etc. What am I doing wrong?

Try going to the command line and doing this...

1. Type 'ping aol.com'
2. Type 'ping 64.12.50.151'

Outcome...

Both passed - Possibly an issue with IE have you tried checking proxy settings

Failed #2 - There is a DNS problem and your unable to look up domain names

Failed Both - There is an internet connection problem, you may not be online or there could be an issue with the network card/dial up device

This will help you diagnose the issue try it out and come back to us.

Failure on #1 indicates the DNS problem, I assume you typo'd. ;)

what do u do if there a problem with dns? does that mean its a problem their end?

Usually, unless someodies fiddled with your HOSTS file or something like that.

If it's a DNS issue, try using OpenDNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

I'm on Orange and it may be nothing more than network overload. It often goes very slow or stops working completely for half an hour or more at a time during peak times (9-11). I get exactly the symptoms you describe. If it works during the morning this may be the problem. :)

You sound happy with that service!! No wonder Orange are giving away free laptops to tie you into a two year contract.

I don't pay the bill, so it's a case of put up or shut up! ;)

I was looking at their 8MB service but it is an 18 month contract. If it were up to me I'd look for another ISP. :p

If you have a router, perhaps for some reason its not pulling the dns servers correctly, if you log into the router, set the DNS severs to the two that Burnsey said, the machines should grab those settings via DHCP.

If you're machines aren't connecting via DHCP and you've manually configured the IP then you may have forgotten to make the DNS server the IP of either a) your router, so it can do the work or b) the two that burnsey suggested.

Finally, if it is Orange's DNS servers failing intermittently then log into your router, and set the DNS servers manually to what Burnsey has said, this should stop the router grabbing its DNS servers from your ISP over it's own DHCP.

nope its nothing to do with hardware, routers, dns, its crappy orange service i had it and was always getting dc on an intermitant basis.

I've had problems the last few days with Orange broadband. Ended up fixing it by dropping the MTU size on my router's WAN connection to 1430 from the default. This was suggested by someone on the Orange broadband user forums. If you try this make a note of the current MTU setting before changing it.
