What is push email? How does it work? Is there an always on connection to the server? Does that use a lot of data? Battery life affected?

Also, with regards to the orange 500mb data bundle, is it against the terms to use my phone as a modem and use that 500mb?

Thanks.

Push e-mail means that the e-mail is sent to your phone (like a text message) instead of your phone looking for new messages and downloading them. In other words, 'push' instead of 'pull'. Yes, your phone will have a continuous connection to the server.

The amount of e-mail you receive and whether you enable the downloading of attachments will determine how much data you use and how badly your battery life is affected. 500MB should be plenty for a single e-mail account with attachments turned off.

And you're correct, using your phone as a modem would be against Orange's Terms and Conditions.

I was wondering whether the battery is significantly affected by the fact that phone is always connected to the server. When you say continuous connection, is it Idle during that period (when its not actually downloading any emails), or is still using data...if so, how much.

Also I hear people referring to "true" push email and "partial" push email. I take it that the latter is just the mobile pinging the server every few seconds to check if there is new emails.

Is push email in any way related to protocols like POP3 and IMAP?

Does my phone (SE W980) support push email?

Are you completely sure? Because I have scoured through the terms and conditions and I can't find anything that says its prohibited.

to be honest you are basicaly asking other people to google things for you like if w980 supports push. You can easly do that your self, it will say it in its specifications most probably or easily found elsewhere by simpling typing w980 push.

And its highly probable it would be against terms.

Already googled and most places say it does, its just in the settings when you are setting it up it asks how often you would like it to check for new email...and from what my understand is...its not supposed to check at all.

EDIT: Turns out that you have to have Check Interval as off for Push email to work.
