I cant use orange messenger on my mobile as my live account is @gmail.com, im fairly sure this is illegal or something, it limits competition etc? Iv just had something through the post about the messenger and decided to have another try see if theyv changed it after I sent them an email about it but they still havnt..

Why would it be illegal? The main difference between Orange messenger and other phone based MSN clients is that Orange will support you with orange messenger, and the restrictions on it are to streamline support processes. There's nothing to stop you using an alternative msn client on your phone, or using msn web messenger through your browser.

The only other difference is the way it's billed. You're charged a set fee for Orange messenger (either daily, monthly or per message) with no additional data charges, whereas an alternative MSN client will incur no fixed cost but you'll pay data charges instead.

There's nothing that limits competition about it at all.

d900, dont really use internet on it tbh, would have rather just grabbed a nice cheap orange messenger and then spat my dummy out and got it added on for free after threatening to leave..

It does limit competition in the fact i cant use my live login which is gmail on orange's program, whereas if i had hotmail, msn, orange, wanadoo etc I could use it.. whats fair about that? Its stupid really as im sure it will rule a lot of people out who would actually buy it =/

It's a supported solution, note what the supported addresses have in common.

You can't reliably offer a fully supported solution that includes every possible third party under the sun, and definitely can't include third parties that don't provide support for their applications anyway...
