sorry for the rant please help!

Thank you

Try updating the software or refreshing it if it's already at the latest version.

If it still doesn't work take it into an Orange shop and show them the problems.

Screen freezing will be a phone fault and not to do with orange. I've been with them for about 4 years now and have experienced some of the problems that you have mentioned when I'm in an area of low signal, how many bars do you get on average?

Also 2 year contracts are never a good idea IMO

thanks for your replies.
i have already updated everything and done the reset that the guy at orange said to do but nothing has changed at all and now i get a message saying cellular network lost about 20 times a day. even if i have signal.

i usualy get 2 or 3 at the most even when i am outside and my mums orange phone is full mine is still 2 or 3 bars.

It seems that a lot of phone companies are trying to push 2 year contracts now. I'm just finishing my second 18 month contract. The first felt like a long time (had a Sony Ericsson k770i) the second has been easy as pie (Nokia E71), so I think it depends somewhat on which phone you choose, but being locked to a certain mobile for that long isn't a good thing. I would never choose an iphone for that reason, my family are on 2 year contracts with the iphone (well, 2 people in my family) and they're pretty sick of them by now too, plus the fact that the contract wasn't exactly competitive at the time.

The only way I'd be tempted into a 24 month was if I got an awesome phone, and I can't think of any at the moment that are both awesome and likely to last 2 years without issues or becoming horribly outdated.

I really wish i hadnt got it for 2 years now. the phone i think is awesome but the orange service and there customer service is just putting me off everything to do with it ! I am going to speak to someone about changing it or canceling altogether because i have had nothing but trouble with them, but somehow i think i am going to have to stick it out as i have had it 2 month now and dont think there is any way of getting out of this horrible contract !

well i eventualy got through to orange and all i got told was to take it to the apple store ! surely this shouldnt be happening after 2 months of having it

My wife is a team leader at Orange call center, just told her about your issues.

If the Iphone is faulty, Orange will not replace them, they have a condition of selling the Iphone, that if they are faulty, you will need to go through Apple. Iphones with Orange will only be replaced, if Lost, stolen, damage has happened, and that's with the insurance.

With regards to your signal issues, she asked if you had tried it in your mum's phone, as you say she gets full bars. Very soon Orange will be using T-Mobile mast's, I know that doesn't help you now, but she said without getting into your account and taking a good look, that's all she can offer here.

thanks for your replies.

Settings > Carrier > Automatic.

Probably won't fix anything, but will at least stop you getting the 'network lost' pop-up every time you lose signal.

Hang on, that's completely at odds with the sale of goods act - so I call foul :p If you purchase goods & services (actually it's slightly different when you purchase goods with services) the responsibility for provision is with the retailer.

Any rights you have against the manufacturer are above and beyond the rights you have against the retailer, and actually nothing to do with the responsibilities what so ever.

I don't for a second believe Orange have an official company policy that's by its very definition illegal

I don't really understand how you are claiming it's illegal. All they have to do is offer a repair route, which they have.

i spoke to orrange again last night and all they could off was a new sim card or take it to apple store in sheffield. i have tried my sim in my mums and brothers phone and still i get nothing. orange also said the same about they dont replace iphones its down to apple and there is nothing they can do. i really am not paying £45 a month for 2 years for a servce i am not getting, surely i must be able to cancel my contract if there not sticking to there part of it by giving me the services i am paying for every month.

have you tried the iphone field test number ?

go into phone, and type the following on the kepypad :

*3001#12345#*

top left hand corner you should see the signal meter replace with a figure (-80, -85 etc) check out what you get.

idea is that lower the number (closer to 0) better the signal.

i've got similar problems with signal loss, and got told in part, its due to the design of the aerial in the iphone 3gs that i have, that has supposedly been changed /resolved in the iphone4.

do you have a cover on the phone, have you tried removing it, also been told that how you hold it can affect the signal, if you hold it towards the bottom it can affect the signal.

i have just checked this and it came up with (-117 ) then went to (-87 ) .

i do have a cover over it yes but i have tried it without like i got told to do and it is still the same.
i wouldnt mind if i only had a couple of month left but i have only just started a 2 year contract so i cant even change my phone to the iphone 4 :(

Just tried the fieldtest number and I'm getting -105 to -97 (assuming its is dB) and that's at my work place where my signal varies from full bar/3G to 1 bar/gprs :/ and tthats on O2

Might juts be your area *shrug*

mine just stays on 1 or 2 bars and i dont get 3g either or if i do i have no signal what so ever.
apparently the signal where i am is fine its the first thing they always check. my boyfriend has a iphone 3g on o2 and it is so much better than mine and mine is the 3gs ! he always has signal and 3g .
